ATI component doggle problems
« on: May 26, 2004, 11:01:32 pm »
Hi all,

I've been experimenting with an ATI 8500 (128Mb) card + the component doggle + Powerstrip on a JVC 27530 27 " TV.  I do agree with those who have tried this configuration that the picture is MUCH better than with S-Video, but I'm having problems getting things to work correctly.

The major problem I'm having is that the picture I get on the TV is very flickery. I've tried modifying several Powerstrip settings in the hopes this will solve the problem but, I've never used the software before, so I'm really not sure what to do (I should also note that I didn't make any changes to the doggle's factory DIP switch settings before attaching it). In case it helps, I'm running XP and MAME32 on a P4 2.8 Ghz 512Mb system.

I'm also having problems getting games to fit on the screen properly...some are too large, others are way too small. I'm assuming this is a secondary issue which can be easily solved once the first problem is fixed - thought I'd mention it in case it was significant.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I did some pretty heavy research a few months ago about the "dongle" over at www.rage3d.com.  The forum there is awesome for any/all ATI questions.

Wasn't there a thread in this forum about the dongle needing to be overscanned to work properly?  Do a search for the dongle here at BYOAC as well.

Hi Trenchbroom,

Sorry to have 'posted-and-run'....I had to head out of town on work unexpectedly.

I did look through the postings on www.rage3d.com and here at BYOAC but couldn't find anything which would assist me with my problem.

Maybe we should start fresh...
From my first post folks can see the configuration I'm using; since I'm just starting to use this setup I assume my problems are fixable since I've read many posts from people who are very happy with the component output of the ATI dongle.

So first a few basic questions:
I used the factory dongle settings with only the 480i switch turned on...was this right? If not, how should the dip switches on the dongle be set to display to a standard TV?

Be great to hear from those who have this configuration working.
Thank you for any assistance!

Running a tv at 29htz will make it flicker in windows.
If you follow the guide I put in the posted in the main  component thread it should work fine.
Your dongle seems to be set right.

Set Mame to display all games in 640X432 in video options.
Make sure you created that resolution in powerstrip first and all will work :)
