Mamewah lists question
« on: May 26, 2004, 10:36:55 pm »
Ok, Ive got a question on how to make mamewah show the games as I would like. Can anyone help?

I have found if I want to run pole position then I have to have the polepos.zip and poleposa.zip files in the roms directory. When I do this then mamewah lists 2 versions in the game list.

Similarly when I load pacman I need to have both pacman.zip and puckman.zip in  the roms directory for either of the games to be operational. And again I end up with 2 pacman's in the game list.

Is there a way to either:
1 - Combine the 2 zips into a single one so that I have only a single zip file

2 - configure mamewah so it lists only 1 of the games instead of both?

I think you will find that is not exactly the case.  You *always* need the parent rom, but you don't need the clone(s).  For your examples, polepos and puckman are the parent roms - they should work by themself.

For the clones to work to require the parent too.  You can add the clone roms to the parent rom's zip file if you like (this is called merged romsets).  Personally I don't use this method (FE's often work better with split sets).

Select a Custom List,
Go into Games List Options > Generate Custom List using Filters,
Set the Clone Filter to 'No' or 'Only if better than parent'.

Personally I would do this, rather than use merged roms :)

Ok, you are correct that I don't need the pacman.zip to run puckman.zip as puckman is the parent. However, I have found that puckman displays different ghost names than the original and thus prefer to use pacman. Therefore I do have both loaded so is there a way to list just the clone pacman?

For polepos I'll have to double check but as I recall I had to have both to make either work. I'll verify this and let you know.

I'd rather not mess with combining zip files either so that is why I ask the quesiton related to mamewah. So if I use a custom list I think I can do either:
1 - generate a custom list with a filter
2 - add my desired games to a favorites list

When doing either of the above is it possible to make the list the default so that it shows when mamewah starts?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think MameWah will will return to the list you left selected when you exited.

Kindof funny, the parent rom Puckman is actually the original (Japanese).  The US version changed the name to stop punks peeling off part of the 'P'...

I get your point tho, and yes you do need puckman to play pacman.

I'm sure polepos it the parent (required) and anything else is a clone.

Yes that's right - as I said I would do 1, and remove clones.  For Pacman you will have to manually remove Puckman as this is the parent rom, and add Pacman (whichever version you want).  Do this in the Games List Options menu.

Yes.  MAMEWAH will default to whichever list was last selected.  Also, you can run MAMEWAH with a /e? switch (where ? is the emu no.), and /l? switch, where ? is the list no. (0 being the Main List).

You can manally edit Mamewah lists.  They are just text files.  You can use your original list and just edit out the lines for Puckman and Pole position, leaving just your preferred clones.
