Anybody use stencils?
« on: May 25, 2004, 10:44:50 am »
Has anybody used the stencils for Joust or space invaders as shown in the arcade library?

Have any pics of the results?

I think they would be cool for not only cabs but wall murals.

Any body have any more of them?

You do realize what goes into most stencil jobs, don't you?

You can't simply cut and spray. I read a thread here or rec....arcade.collecting that said you need to jigsaw out the pieces indivdually, so you don't lose any corners. That is how the stencils came. It would be sweet if someone made a ms. pac stencil kit, and sold it for $125 + shipping, with a guarentee that the person buying it would sell it for $125 + shipping. Everyone would get a chance with them, and no one would lose.

You can create your own stencils with a printer and some contact paper, and an exacto knife. I started stenciling the art back on my Defender (I quit, because my painting skills needed some work) but I plan to get back to it.

I'm making the joust stencil with a scroll saw.  It's made with 3/16" paneling made of some kind of plastic.  I have a plotter I printed the stencils out on.  I just put a spray glue on the paper and rolled it on.  Drill a few holes and cut it out.  The joust stencil has a couple of "errors" in it.  I didn't want loose pieces so I had to modify it just a little.

I just wondered if anybody had ever cut them out and used them. If they had some tips, etc.

I thought it would be cool for the den wall too. A couple of joust characters as a mural would be really cool.  I got an old stargate cab and this looks like the easiest way to really spice it up.

Wow, that's beautiful work.  I have  the same cab.  Thanks for the link!
