Cab Theme.
« on: May 24, 2004, 12:22:00 am »
I think I've figured out what I want as my theme.  Transformers!  I think I'm going to base a majority of the artwork on Unicron.  Seeing as how he was only in the movie, artwork is kinda hard to find.  I may see if I can get some clean screencaps from VHS, but I'm not holding my breath.

Has anyone else seen a cab that has a Transformers based theme?  If so, I guess it's back the the drawing board.  I'd like to be some what original.  Below is an attatchment of Unicron.  I've found some fan art which seems to be a majority of what's out there, but I think this image is an official production one.

Man, I LOVED the original show when it first came out....

Are you going to stick to the original (G-1) series or use all the variations since?

I'll use artwork up to, and including the movie.  So it will be from the original series.

Transformers were soo cool when they first came out.  I loved the original show, especially that sound that they made when they transformed.  ;D

Perhaps you could have the good guys (autobots) on one side of the cabinet and the bad guys (deceptecons) on the other??

The current Energon series is all about reviving Unicron.  Check for some of that art!  They have kep Unicron almost 100% the same.

I was thinking something like that, but I was really wanting them joined against Unicron.  I may have the autobot/decepticon symbols on opposite sides.  I also thought that I'd have Unicron on the CP in planet form eating my trackball.  ;)

Thanks AmericanDemon.  I'll keep an eye out for it.

I agree...this is a fantastic idea, very retro...what about capturing unicron from the Transformers movie DVD...would be a lot cleaner then VHS...still might not be clean enough though  ::)

Since I love the movie, I'll look for it on DVD.  ;D  I'll run by my local rental store and see if it's available.  At least I might be able to get a screencap large enough to vecotrize.  Thanks for the tip.  Not sure how I managed to not think of something so obvious.

Maybe you can get someone on these boards to Vectorize some the Transformers images for you.

I have always wanted to build a scaled version of Optimus and put a dual monitor in his chest cavity and place a CP on his knees.  That would be soooo cool.

Not vector art, but there are some pretty cool 3D renders of Unicron at the following URL: http://www.tfw2005.com/~weewoo/images/wip/2002/g1_unicron.shtml

hope it helps,

I know someone with all the transformer action figures :)  he has the huge unicron.

If you want newer pics of unicron he was in Transformers Armada tv series towards the end.

I believe there is a Transformers Skin for Dragon King available on the DK website.  There is also a small intro video for it too which may be useful to you - so your frontend matches the theme of the cab.  ;D

I was walking around Wally-World today and was looking for a Consumer Reports (not to be found), but I did find something interesting.  A Transformers encyclopedia.  It had some guys in there I've never even seen before.  Had awsome artwork and I have a pretty nifty scanner.  I should be able to scan those puppies in high-res and then vector trace them.  Problem is the book cost almost $20.  Maybe I'll drop by a used book store now that I know it exists.  Besides, I don't want to buy a book that's $20 if I'm not commited to the idea yet.  I'm wishy-washy.  What else is new?  ::)

Not Unicron, but there's a beautiful Optimus Prime here:
