Havin a party, want some games to have some tournaments
« on: May 22, 2004, 03:30:32 am »
I'm havin a party this weekend, and am lookin forward to havin some arcade tounrament action. I'm gonna keep it to about 10 games, and at the end of the day I'll go thru high scores and prizes to the top in each game. Nothing extravagant, but like $5 or spliting the quarters accumulated at the end, whatever is more

So now the question is, what 10 games would make good party/tournament games? I'd liek a good variety, so probably no more than like 2 shooters, and 2 mazes, and 2-3 platforms, a brick game or 2. Ideally it'll be a pretty fair representation of the mix at a good ol arcade

If you could just give the 2 or 3 games youd wanna play at somehting liek this, I can tally em up in the morning and cut down mamewah to those games, make sure they all play fine, and let the good times roll!

THanks!

Hey Brad, nothing like an Arcade party.  I've had a few "Arcade-A-Thons".  The first one was last summer and I have a pretty extensive thread on the idea here:

http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=10522

That thread was after the first one.  What I do is ask the people coming over what their favorite game(s) are and try to come up with a top 6-10 games that they all like.  Depending on the amount of time you plan this to cover you can have more or less games.  From my experience I would limit it to about 3 games per hour per 6 people.  What I mean is, with 6 people in the tournament, they can get through 3 full games each in an hour.   If you have more people, I would cut it down to 1-2 games an hour, etc..  I now try to keep it to a 2 hour tourney, maybe 3 hour.  As cool as Mame is, people just get bored after a while.  I am building a 2nd Mame machine now though which will help in the future, less downtime for people - there can be two machines going at once.... 8)
