Xbox Mod
« on: May 21, 2004, 04:59:36 pm »
I just finished modding my Xbox.  I just have to say that every time I fire the thing up, or FTP a game over to it I get a huge dorky grin on my face.

I HIGHLY recommend the SmartXX mod chip.  It makes things SOOOO much easier for beginners.  I did the whole thing, from installing the chip to upgrading the hard drive, to installing a dash and thirty or so games (not to mention the entire libraries of NES and Super NES games) without ever burning a disc.

Oh yeah...I also installed an LCD into the front of it.  The SmartXX is compatible with tons of LCD screens.

I've already got one request to mod another box, and almost nobody I know is even aware I was doing this.  By the end of the year I'll probably be a professional Xbox Modder.  Trust me, once you see one of these things in action you have to have one.

Well go on then, post some pics and advertise your abilities ;D

Seriously though, would mind seeing the pic with the LCD setup etc.

I've got my X-Box halfway complete.  If you love to hack your box, then you should visit this site for some awesome examples!

I'll post some pictures when I get home from work.  It's nothing fancy like some of the examples at xbox-scene.  Just plain vanilla black box except that there's an LCD mounted in the front.  Still...pretty cool.  The only other mod I've done, which you can't see, is drill some vent holes on top to get more airflow around the hard drive.  I replaced the cool-running 5400 RPM stock drive with a 120 GB 7200 RPM drive, and it runs HOT.

I've also got a fan on mod on the way to further encourage a cool system and I'll install that when it gets here.  I won't, however, be doing any paint jobs or lighting mods.  I don't really like most of those -- and my wife would HATE them (not only all that, but my skills with electronics and a dremel tool don't come close to matching some of those out there who have modded their boxes).

How recent of MAME ROMs are you able to run on your x-box?
What was that again?

i dont know a whole lot about mame, but since the new realease .84 b2 or somethin like that it has virtual memory built into it so games u couldnt previously play are now playable.  i still cant play the 3d games though.

I agree there are so many things you can do with a modded Xbox once you get it running. imo if you have an Xbox modding it is a must.

No you have to use the Xecutor chip. Any way I love my modded box except I hate the hard drive. I got a 150 gb hd and it is full to the max. I could easily fill a 500 gb hd with my xbox.

It's true.  You don't have to do anything.  Not only that, but until you can buy an Xecutor 3 you would be a fool to use an Xecutor chip.  SmartXX is the best option now, with Xenium coming in second.

Xecutor 3 looks like it will take the crown back, but until then Xecutor cannot even compete.
