New and need a Experts help please!
« on: May 20, 2004, 01:18:31 am »
I've just started on making my first Mame Cabinet and have a few questions. I did read through the FAQ and if I missed the answer I apologise.

I have an old standup unit. It has a 20" TOEI Arcade monitor inside. The PCB board for the monitor is there and they system works good running normal Jamma PCB games.

I want to run a PC in it which I am all ok with, but my questions regard the monitor. (I will be running ArcadeVGA card and J-Pac)

The power for the arcade monitor is getting me a little confused on how to setup. Everything else should just be normal through the Jamma wiring and J-Pac.

On the bottom of the cabinet I have 3 items. 1 is a Power distributor, the other looks like a sort of transformer and the 3rd im not sure, some longish device that has a wire mesh over it with breather holes I expect. Some sort of power thing.

Now am I correct to say that once I get my PC up and running, to turn the Arcade monitor on I still use the original switch at the back of the cabinet and then turn my PC on seperately ?

I did read somewhere that I dont need to have the power for Jamma inside and I can remove it, I just dont know which one or any to remove and wanted to save some space as these 3 items are on the floor of the cabinet.

Basically If I connect the J-pac and ArcadeVGA up and wiring all the joystick and buttons up correctly, is there anything else I have to look out for before getting this up and running ?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The power for the monitor will not require rewiring. You would flip the switch as usual to turn it on seperate from your PC. As for the parts in the bottom, I'm not much help. I left mine all in place, though imagine most aren't necessary. I just never took the time to figure out what was what...

the "mesh covered thing" sounds like a power supply. Probably just leave it alone unless you really need the room
