VP-Launch.exe ---> I need help !
« on: May 19, 2004, 11:50:51 am »
I finally finished my Cabinet. Now it comes to configuring Mamewah and Visual Pinball / VPinmame.

I want to use the Lazarus-wrapper but neither vp-launch.exe or vp-launch4.exe work.

I think I have configured Mamewah properly, but when selecting a pinball, the wrapper starts but
- when using vp-launch4.exe I cant skip the disclaimer (Dont use drugs / steal pinmame roms). I tried every button but nothing happens. To exit I have to shut down my computer.
- when using vp-launch.exe  a black screen appears and nothing more happens, the rest: same as above.

Anybody experienced the same problem ?
Any help is appreciated. Thx in advance.

Vp has this little-known bug....  You can't launch it remotely unless the installer is still on your drive when you try to launch a table for the first time.

Just in case you were wondering the likely cause.

Which installer is this?  I'm getting pretty much the same problem at the moment on a new machine I'm trying to configure.

Howard,

What are you referring to?  The installer for VisualPinball?

It launches just fine on my cab and I never had the installer on my cab.  I copied the directory over from my laptop.

I did have to manually set up the default action (Play) for the file type, but it launches just fine.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

I have installed Mamewah and VP-launch4 on 2 computers.
One is running Win XP and everything works flawless.

The other machine runs Win 98 SE. Starting a pinball via Mamewah and vp-launch4 is no problem, but the mouse cursor won't hide. When pressing "ESC" to exit the table ,the message window pops up, but visuall pinball won't exit automatically as it is supposed to. I have to do it manually ..... How can this be fixed ?

I am running Visuall Pinball in Fullscreen 800x600 and I have minimized the Visual pinball editor before exiting it.

I've been trying to use vp-launch4 for a while but I always get run-time error 76, path not found. I'm using XP SP1 which obviously means something because in one forum, some guy said I bet you using XP and laughed.

No that guy is a dink and should be stoned to death.  Xp is the preferred language of all of my utilities.  If anything.. using 98 seems to cause certain people a lot of problems (even though it shouldn't, but I can't get enough testers to help me track down the 98-specific issue).

Path not found error generally means you are putting the wrapper or one of it's components in the wrong place.  They should be in your tables folder, not in the root of your visual pinball folder.

Thanks for the reply. I do have the vp-launch4.exe in the tables folder, as with vp-launch (version 2 I believe) Version 2 works without a hitch. 4 just won't play ball

make sure you moved the vplcfgs folder into your tables folder too and at least have the default.ini in there.  (Others are made automatically. )

Other than that I'm not sure.

WOOHOO!! Thanks a bunch!

My mistake, I was just draging the file out of winzip. Didn't even see that the default.ini had a path to it.

Now, any tips as to why the scoreboard will never stay on top :D

I'm having the same path issue, but I keep my tables in a separate directory from the VP install directory.  Howard, does it need to be in VP's install directory, or the directory that I keep the tables in?

(or do I have to move my tables into VP's tables directory  :-[)

Thanks

It needs to be with the tables.

But for the record visual pinball tables (non pinmame ones) won't operate properly unless they are in the tables dir inside the visual pinball dir.  The sound fx and music files are stored in a common directory within vp and older tables don't dynamically search.
