Monitor issues, Phillips monitor in Sega cab
« on: May 19, 2004, 10:43:02 am »
I am having a few problems with my newly aquired cabs monitor. I am not sure of the make / model, but the tube has a Phillips sticker on it and the cabinet is clearly marked Sega in several places.

On the Windows desktop, there is a bright white bar at the bottom all the way along. It also seems to be out of focus (the Start menu is too blurred to read). The rest of the screen is fine.

There also appears to be a semi circle on the right where it is usually dark, like the colour is inverted or something. WHen the screen should be green, it is dark purpley; and when it's red it is orange.

All help greatly appreciated.

Your monitor needs a capkit for sure and a good degaussing.

Philips only made the picture tube not the monitor. Since you have a Sega cabinet then you likely have a Nanao monitor.

Thanks for the quick response Ken.

I had guessed it probably was a Nanao from various other threads I've read regarding Sega machines. I gather they're not very good?

Anyway, new caps should definitely fix it?

OK I have established that the monitor is a Wells Gardner model 25K7193. (according to a little white sticker on the pcb).

There is some white gunk (may be solid, haven't tried poking it) at the base of two of the large caps.

Yep, put in a capkit (use the K7000 series kit). The kit should fix it. The white stuff is just glue the factory put on certain caps. You don't need to replace the glue.

I also have a Phillips 34" Tube with similar issues (colors are "off" and look washed out instead of bright and vibrant".  Am I in the same boat?  If so, where can I get this cap kit and degausser?

Oh yeah, my "34 Phillips tube is in a Sharp Image monitor.  Was the last post in reference to me?  I don't see a capkit for a "34 inch Sharp Image monitor....is there a substitute?

You'll have to find a model number for that Sharp Image monitor since they used several monitor manufacturers and models. If all else fails just contact Sharp Image at www.sharpimage.net

I need the 7000 cap kit for my 7193 right?

I've checked bobs and he has the kit, but he doesnt accept any electronic payments and so it will take forever+1day to get to me.

Anyone aware of a cap kit source in the UK?

If not I guess I'll have to go buy the individual caps from Maplin.

Yes, the 7000 kit is for the 7193.

Try this link for the list of caps that make up the kit:

http://arcade.ne.client2.attbi.com/~rgvac/manuals/capkits/

Zanen Electronics cap kit # 204 is for your monitor.

uh.. maybe a stoopid question but does the line dissapear when you shrink the v-size? looks like plain old screen wrapping to me. the top & bottom edge of the screen should be black.
