So excited I finally started guys!
« on: May 18, 2004, 09:24:55 pm »

Okay so I feel like a 10 year old again but isn't that what its suppose to feel like?  After weeks of intense reading & asking questions, I finally started my cab.

Yea its just another "New cab" post for most of you, but its a way for me to express my excitement!  ;D  I am trying to keep a log of events on my site so please feel free to visit.  I hope you enjoy it and frequent it for updates.

When all is said & done I will post pictures of the final product in the Project Announcements.  That's of course if I have time after playing hours upon hours of games with my family!

Anyways I though I'd share a little of my experience with you all, and I hope you enjoy my FIRST CAB!

Wahoo! :D

I hope you're going to give ROM some credit for using his graphic?

I got the graphic from Arcade Art Library and the person that posted it was named mahuti.  Is that the graphic you are referring to?

VERY nice site.  I like the build log a lot, and the pictures are nice and clear too.

One comment/suggestion/whatever, you mention using two drills (one as drill, one as screwdriver).  I'm sure you didn't buy two drills for this project, but for all of those of us out there with only one drill, I'd like to recommend something I picked up a while back.  It's a wuick disconnect combination bit that has a countersink drill bit on one end, and a screwdriver bit on the other end.  You can change the bit without having to open up the chuck and all that.  It's made my work a lot faster.

No I borrowed the extra drill.  ;)

One thing that also works for pilot holes is using the normal screw drill bit against the MDF.  I didn't have the countersink bit so to make a slight countersink hole I simply used the same screw bit and drilled into the MDF for 2 seconds.  The "star" bit(or whatever its called) used for drywall screws works like a charm and then all you have to do is place the screw onto the screw bit after making the countersink and drill the screw into place.  Its pretty cool if you ask me, after all the wood filler covers that hole up anyways.  And its fast.

Nice layout on the site.  I like the outline of activities, too.  A nice checklist.

I remember working on my first cabinet and I completely understand your enthusiasm.  You have every right to be excited.  You will dream about it until it is complete and you begin enjoying countless hours playing it.  Certainly don't let one flame-bait (read: Apollo) ruin your day. :)

Good luck and post tons of pics.

Sweet, lookin good so far.  You gonna add any t-molding to that thing, or are the sides gonna stay bare?  That thing is gonna look pretty wicked when it's all done, another great mame cabinet.

Looks good so far.

You guys that put the websites up before building your cabs kill me! I'm sorry but I wanted my machines too bad to waste valuable time on a website until the cabs were done!

Just kidding but whatever you do don't play test it before it's finished because it will never get finished.....

Yea for sure...Based on the colors I've chosen I will probably end up with White or Black t-molding.  On Day 3 I made the cuts for the t-molding.

Yea I'm a geek like that, but putting the site together is just as fun too (sometimes).  I enjoy getting feedback/comments along the way. ;)

Glad you like it though.
