will boxed in monitor get too hot?

I have just boxed in my monitor in using plywood - to allow it to be easilly removed from my forthcoming cocktail cab for easy transportation and protect it (and me!).

eventhough i have put in ventilation holes - i am still wondering if it will overheat. do you think i will need to fit fans to keep the monitor cool.

i anticipate that the cab will be not running 24x7

i am currently not sure how hot the monitor will get.

any suggestions/comments are appreciated.

yes it will get very hot. i dont think the enclosure is needed, or i would remove it after transportation.

on the bright side you could grill a steak on it while you play games.

next step is to fit a bezel board...

Seems to me there's more ventilation on your custom box than what a monitor case has.  I'm presuming you removed it from the plastic case before you put it in your wood box.  The only thing is, if it's going in a cocktail cab the heat will naturally rise.  All I can suggest is to plug it in, turn it on and check to see how hot it gets.  Just remember, it's going to be inside another box with other components producing heat.

FYI

it is a NOS Hantarex 21" MTC EQ/2 video monitor it was open framed (had no case).

i will leave it on for a few hours and see how hot it gets....maybe i'll have a BBQ

I would just take it of the box after transportation--the box seems redundant from that point on (store it in the bottom of your cab for future moves) just my .02.

All the cocktails I ever had used a 12V fan.  They had vents on the side and the bottom, some were covered with a grill. The fan was mounted on the bottom.  I mounted one on the side and it was okay too.

Mounting on the bottom probably sucked air through the side and blew all the bugs away under the cab.

just tested with the monitor turned on for the last 6 hours. i am pleasently surprised how little heat there actually is. i think it should be ok to leave the sides on when i mount it in the cab. especially when i have case fans providing air circulation.
