I got a PS2
« on: May 13, 2004, 10:58:49 pm »
So my friend said he didn't play his ps2 and gave it to me. I'm so excited!!!

What games should I get?

I already have an xbox, so I would like to know about ps2 exclusive games.

EyeToy is pretty fun
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Socom II is the total crack (besides my own) of the year. :P

It's mint.

(The online is cool part, I could give to squats about the single player missions...)

I think my fav may be SSX-tricky.

Not arcade-control material, but pretty fun stuff, in my book.  It may be the only console game I've ever finished.

(It's not PS2-specific, but I've played SSX on all three consoles, and the PS2 controller is best for it.)

For platforms, Maximo was pretty fun, if a bit repetitive (but I think all console games are).  Ratchet and Clank 2 looks pretty cool, too, but I've only played it a few times.

What was that again?

Bro you should try the single player missions. They are super fun especially how you can talk to your own computer control squad mates and give them orders!  Check it out

Eyetoy Groove is pretty fun, but make sure you have people around to enjoy it with.

Prince of Persia -- excellent game (but if you have an X-Box then you should get it for that instead)

Oh, almost forgot Rez  It's a simplistic shooter (if you've ever played Panzer Dragoon Orta, you'll feel right at home) but the trance music and effects are excellent.  It's really something you need to experience.

Virtua Fighter 4 is pretty great too (and the new version is only $20).

As for PS1 games (playable on PS2) You may be able to find a copy of Tempest X and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for dirt cheap.  I recommend picking them both up.

Enjoy.  And remember: keep the PS2 horizontal for minimal headaches!

The real question is: What kind of games do you like?  'Cause if you don't like a particular genre, then even great games of that genre won't interest you.  Take me, for example.  I have never been able to play FPS on consoles to save my life.  I couldn't stand to play Halo on the XBox.  Now Halo on the PC was another story entirely.  I've also learned that I don't care for stealth action, and even though Metal Gear Solid 2 is probably a top 100 of all time game, I don't much care for it.  If a game gets enough good reviews, I'll probably try it out, and sometimes I find myself enjoying a game from a genre I don't like.

Metal Gear Solid 2 could have been a fantastic game if it weren't for the fact that gameplay is interupted constantly by a zillion really long cutscenes that only make sense if you mix LSD with Drano.

If you like racing games Gran Turismo 3 is a must have. For platformers I can't say enough about Jak & Daxter.

Lemme see what I can come up with for ya:

RPG -  I tend not to play these, so I won't comment.
Fighting - You've probabyl already played Soul Calibur 2 and Mortal Kombat: Deadly alliance for the Xbox, so my picks for the PS2 would have to be Guilty Gear XX, Tekken 4 (or Tag, they're both cheap), and the upcoming King of Fighters double pack.

Platformers - If you don't want easy, try Maximo (and it's sequel), or Contra: Shattered soldier.  They both reach back to the good ol days of difficulty.  Me, I like my platformers a little easier, like the Ratchet and Clank games or the Jak and Daxter games.  You might alos give ICO a try, it's more puzzle than action, and surprisingly good.

Gun Games - With a Guncon 2, the Time Crisis games are fun, and I'd reach back into the PS1 catalog and recommend the Point Blank series as well.

Music - You've already listed Frequency and Gitaroo Man, there's always Amplitude (Frequency 2), and you can pick up Mad Maestro for dirt cheap.  The DDR games are good, and the EyeToy: Groove is very similar to Samba de Amigo for the Dreamcast.  On the rhythm side there's the re-release of Space Channel 5 (With SC5-2, for $15), and PaRappa.
