WG vs Hantarex vs VisionPro vs NeoTec ...
« on: May 11, 2004, 07:15:36 am »
Hi,

Sorry for the blatent "Give me consumer advice for free!" nature of this thread, but it's decision time for me with my 19" / 20" standard res monitor (to be mounted in a cocktail cab).

Does anyone have any strong warnings / recommendations for the WG K7200 19", Hantarex POLO 20", NeoTec 19" or Vision Pro 19" shelf mount?

I guess reliability and build quality are my biggest priority, followed by picture quality and finally ease of powering the thing in the UK and mounting it in a cocktail.

All anecdotes / experiences / unfounded bias welcome!

For 19/20" ones, I have used:

- WG K4600's (4 different ones)
- Electrohome G07's (2 different ones)
- Nintendo (Sanyo or sharp?) 20EZ's (4 different ones)
- Hantarex MTC900e (2 differnet ones)
- Hantarex MTC9000 (new) (1)
- 8Liners repacement with like-new TV tubes (like-new) (1 with 5 different tubes)

In order from best to worst for picture quality (noting that 2 were new, others were used), after capping/fixing anything needed on the chassis's are:
1) Hantarex MTC9000 (new)
2) Nintendo 20EZ's (used)
3) 8Liners replacement (new)
4) Hantarex MTC900e (used)
5) WG K4600's (used)
6) Electrohome G07's (used)

In order from best to worst for ability to control screen geometry/color/etc..:
1) Hantarex MTC9000
2) 8liners replacement
3) Hantarex MTC900e
4) Nintendo 20EZ's
5) WG K4600's
6) Electrohome G07

I just bought a Vision Pro from Happ's, and it won't fit in my cocktail cabinet.  I am working with an actual Midway cab with about 19 and 1/2 inches of space inside.

The description claims "shelf mount", but the mounting tabs stick out so far that it is too wide to fit in the cocktail.  I checked the monitor FAQ page on the Happ website, and it seems like I got a "universal mount".  If you look at the mounting diagram, it shows two different sets of mounting points - not so on the monitor I received.

I called Happ's and was told that there isn't any other type of frame for that monitor, and that I could send it back and get a different (more expensive) monitor that has the type frame I need.   Rather than do that I am trying to find someone who has a spare horizontal frame that is no wider than 19 and 1/2 inches.  So far no luck.

So think twice about the Vision Pro, or at least don't order it over the internet - call first so you can get the true dimensions!
