mamewah skins
« on: May 08, 2004, 11:14:27 pm »
I did a couple of searches on skins, and couldn't find the answer...

I'm trying out some of the coolio skins I found on stuzza'a site...(some of them even use some of my marquees), but for the life of me I can't get the background images to display.  I've read over the instructions (translation:skimmed :))  and I can't figure out what's going on.  I suppose I could settle for the default layout, which is spiffy and all, but you know how sometimes something just drives you nuts because you can't figure it out?  :sigh:

Huh, the only thing that didn't work for me right away was the text size (it was HUGE).  I had to run the
MAMEWAH Layout Designer.exe
and select the .lay file, then change the text.

Now, there is also an "image" option under the "background" menu.  FYI you can also change color depth and refresh rate here.

Also, make sure your MAMEWAH/FILES/MAMEWAH.CFG has the
Layout Name = <your layout name>      correctly set,
and that your layout file and background image are in
the MAMEWAH/LAYOUTS/<your layout name> directory
(ie you should have emu1.lay and emu1-main.jpg in this directory)

Just for kicks you might want to run the MAMEWAH setup program
(http://www.mamewah-setup.co.uk/)and look under the "layout view" tab.

Thanks!  I had installed the mamewah setup proggy but had only briefly taken a look at it.  The layouts were right, but I had to specify the actual background image (even though it was in the correct directory).  What a neat little program!  Much appreciated, I'm surprised I haven't heard more good things about it!

When you specify the background image, the image gets renamed and placed in the corect place to be shown in MAMEWAH.

Handy little program. :)
One of the problems with (at least some of) the mamewah skins that are available is that the file naming conventions for layout elements changed somewhere along the lines. The current filenames are listed in the layouts.txt file and you can see that some of the downloadable skins don't match that :)

Yeah, I tried to follow that, but as with so many things, I got half way though it, thought "ahhh!  That must be it!" and went off for the hands on, and figured "eh, the instructions didn't help me the first time I looked at them, so I'll just look online"  :-\

Glad I did though, I love that setup program, and probably never would have run it again if I hadn't been on here!  ;D

Oh, and "Very nice program Mr. Butler!!!"
