Using clrMamePro to rebuild older rom sets???
« on: May 07, 2004, 09:40:54 am »
I have an old PC I'm going to use for running MAME classic games like Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Defender, etc.  Everything I read seems to recommend using an older version of MAME for DOS like v0.36 since it would run faster for playing the older games.

I seem to recall seeing postings that imply you can use clrMamePro to take a current set of ROMS and rebuild them as an older set (so take a v0.80 set and from that create a new v0.36 set).

Is this true?  I have the dat files for current ROM sets as well as the dat file for the v0.36 set.

I've been searching the clrMamePro home page, as well as the clrMamePro tutorial at http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/clrmameguide.htm but can't seem to find enough information.

Can anyone offer some advice or point me in the right direction for going backwards like this?

Thanks.

Load the .36 .dat file, and don't 'scan' your sets, rebuild them into a new directory.

This is a bit OT...bt since the question was answered we won't call it a hijacking...  ;D

I'm just wondering where to find a dat file for Vantage...thought you might know, Peale.

I posted that information about a week ago.  Do a search for vantage clrmame dat and hopefully you should find it here on the site.

Oh wait, did it for you:

The link I posted over in the vantage ISO? topic has
all the samples in cd 1 Vantage install and all the roms in cd 2 roms install so if you get thes two downloads there is no need for rebuilding the sets

Now all i have to do is figure out how to load this on to an old 486 that was given to me that only has one of those big floppy drives in it I believe its 5 1/4"
