Hmm .. What Next? (Newbie)
« on: May 04, 2004, 10:55:51 am »
Okay, I have my Arcade cabinet, my JPac, and my ArcadeVGA. One step at a time though I'm thinking!

What version of Mame / Front End is going to give me that awesome cab? I've decided on Windows 98SE as the Operating system.

Eventually I'd like all the bells and whistles, the flyers, the nice scrolling game list and so on. But first, the basics .. getting the games on the PC. Is there nice step by step (idiot-proof) guide to getting Mame (whichever you guys recommend) on the PC with a decent FE?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Many Thanks

For help with Windows commandline MAME, see www.mameworld.net/easyemu .

Make sure you look for section about 'Win32 MAME' and NOT 'MAME32'.  FYI MAME32 has a built-in FE and is generally best avoided for cab use...

Well no problem if it works OK :)  The reason I said that is that I have never & will never test my FE with MAME32...I know some other FE dev's are the same too.  In some cases I have heard MAME32 can have problems with MW which MAME doesn't.

It just seems pointless to use MAME32 whose main point is that it has a built-in FE, and then disable the GUI and use it with another FE...
