where can i get a super gun?
« on: May 03, 2004, 05:17:09 pm »
im planning on buying some PCB kits from www.coinopexpress.com but i want to play it on my 17" LCD monitor instead, i kno that the arcade monitor looks better, but its just too dam big. I live in an apartment in NYC, so its small and saving space is a must. I'm still quite new to all of this arcade stuff, i dont even kno how a jamma connector/cable looks like.  But i do kno that i need a super gun to convert the 15khz signal from the PCB to a 31khz LCD monitor.  Anyone know where i can get one?

Mas Systems don't make them anymore I think. For your purposes it won't work anyway: the Super Gun does not output 31kHz VGA.

Mas Systems has a newer version of the Super Gun, the Super Nova. Again, this does not output 31kHz VGA. It does output S-video, composite video and 15kHz RGB so if you have a TV that supports either of these you might go for this one instead.

I think you'd need an upscan converter to turn the pcb's 15kHz signal to 31kHz.

After that you essentially just need to get power to the pcb and hook your controls up to it.

IIRC there is a page floating around with a guide on doing just this, that is building your own supergun. Didn't look too tough when I had a look (but haven't done it myself).

Google and see what comes up. Good luck!

i came up with the XRGB upscan converter, but how would that be attached to the Jamma?

Anyone know of detailed information where I can get this stuff to play PCB games on a regular analog 17" LCD?

The XRGB upscan converter has a 21-pin Multi connector (a Japanese standard). This input terminal allows for 15kHz RGB input + composite sync. It would be trivial to make a cable to connects the Super Gun to the XRGB.
