Multi-Cab idea
« on: May 02, 2004, 06:55:29 am »
I thought I would pose a question to ya'll.  Similar to the Multi-Williams games, what do you think about a multi-Nintendo cab?  Or at least a multi-Donkey Kong cab.

Are the controls similar enough to each other for a multi-Nintendo Cab?

There are a  prerequisite:

The cab style would be the same as Donkey Kong and Popeye

I would suggest one limitation:
Limit the games to the same control panel layout (I.E. no excess buttons)

So what do you think?  Cool idea or lame idea?

Cool idea.

I think the Multi-Williams idea can be applied to many classes of game.

It's a good compromise between having lots of dedicated cabinets (which let's face it no one has the room or money for) and a single cabinet fitted with a cluttered "franken-panel" or a complicated swappable/rotateable mechanism.

And by limiting yourself to just a few games (hopefully linked by a common theme) you can come up with reasonably coherent artwork. I think the Multi-Williams artwork look brilliant.

It's not actually a new idea. Someone here recently posted details of their cab which had Pac Man artwork and only PacMan Clones installed on it.

Another possible suggestion would be a cab based on type... a Pac (& clones) cab, a "Shooter" cab (for games like Galaga, Galaxian & Space Invaders) and then a "Fighter" cab for games more for the Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat gamers.

Multi-Kong is not new:

I don't think he sells kits, though.  Don't forget that Popeye is horizontal.  :)
