Donkey Kong Lives (thanks to Jakobud)
« on: May 02, 2004, 04:26:42 am »
Just a quick pic to let you see how my latest project is going.

DK is built form the plans jakobud drafted for us on this forum.

contruction time was only 2 days (last saturday and sunday)

Plan was to mame it, but its looking so good i may stick a board in it and go that way.

Anyone got a Nintendo coin door in the uk?
And a template for the speaker grill slots?

next up on the project front...
Popeye(cause i got the bezel etc)
Defender
Centipede
and i got to get the cocktails finshed!

btw, i will be selling DK when complete (no room at the inn so to speak!)

That looks really nice... I've always wanted to build a Nintendo cab. Where are those plans?

That looks awesome! Did you paint the sides or is that laminate? And where did you get the artwork? What kind of monitor are ya puttin in there?

WOW!  Beautiful work!  I've gone to pick up a DK or DKJR cab at least three different times, but they always seemed too beat up and not worth the trouble.  I'm seriously considering building one from scratch.

Nintendo coin mechs are on eBay quite frequently, but they always seem to be listed under different descriptions.

Thanks guys for the complements, its what keeps me doing this (that and as a side line it keeps the roof over my head)!

to answer your question dmsuchy, its painted on as i could not find any laminate in even a close color. artwork on the side of the cab is from http://www.localarcade.com/4images/ and was printed at work on a hp750c 36" wide printer on glossy paper. bezel etc are original.
monitor is to be a 21" pc, unknown what brand(what ever cheap one i find) or i was messing with the idea of putting it back as an original.

Oscar you are correct about the discriptions, and I have a brother in the USA who has a couple of doors, but just cost so darn much to ship to the uk, so i thought i would see if there was one here. (looks like Nintendo cabs in the uk are pretty rare).

So for now it will slide in the hallway along side the yellow pacman i built the same way last year (still gotta do the side art on it)

Hi, Nice work!! ;D I downloaded the Jakobud plans last week to build one of these beauties! Did you use the imperial measurements on the plans or convert them to metric? I can't get on with 'old money' measurements!
How do you get the radius right on the side panels? I see the top of the cab has R1.72". How do you go about drawing that on the panel?  :-[ You obviously have it sussed!

Wow, thats beautiful. Really nice work.
I agree with you on wanting to get a real DK board and having a re-manufactured original.

Anyone got a Nintendo coin door in the uk?

Your wish is my command :)  Sorry they are in inches..!!  If you require a better/bigger picture, just email me

As for the coin door - I am also going to be building a Donkey Kong cabinet (actually DK Jr.) and have been buying stuff from Ebay in the US (we never got the original cabs down here in Oz).
I recently won a Nintendo coin door for $17US and postage to Australia was only $27US.  It comes with mechs, counter, wiring etc and looks to be in reasonable nick.  So you are in with a good chance..  took me a little while to find, but they are out there ;)

Only thing I can see wrong with it (apart from normal wear and needing a good cleanup/paint) is the coin return "catch" is missing on one side (see front pic) - finding one is proving to be a bit of a pain so watch out for that one  :-\

BTW the cab looks bloody nice..!!  Congrats

Also, if you put in an original board, get a DK Jr and send it to Mikes Arcade - they mod it so it can play both DK and DK Jr. on the one board.  More info HERE
