Artwork printing or buying in Australia?
« on: May 01, 2004, 10:53:59 am »
Anyone in Australia had their artwork printed or managed to find a cp  overlay, side art supplier here in Australia?

Otherwise it looks like I will have to buy in the US and get it posted here to Aust.  Anyone done this as well?  Shipping times etc would be appreciated.

 ;D

I recently had a CP overlay and Marquee printed here in Aus by a local digital printing company.  I'm in Adelaide and got the artwork printed by "Ochre Digital" which is on Magill Road.  The CP overlay cost $40 AU and the Marquee cost $60 AU. The Marquee cost more cos I had it printed on  backlit film with a satin laminate on the front and back to prevent any damage from UV (overkill maybe, but at least I know it will last!).  The print quality of both items was fantastic and it only took 1 day to get each printed.

Result of CP overlay can be seen in this thread: http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=18749

I saw that and thought it looked really good.

I didn't realise you were in Adelaide, so am I.  Small world. :)

I often head out to Amusementworx on Magill Rd for a look.

If Ochre Printing are that side of town and now have a bit of experience in this sort of thing I may use them!

BTW How long did it take for the T-molding to arrive after ordering?

Another fellow Adelaidian!  I think that makes at least 4 of us now?

I've been into amusementworx before, when I was looking for my second cabinet.  They didn't really have anything I was after at the time.  It was good to find out there are a few arcade places close by though.  If you need some other parts or old cabinets try "Southern Star Electronics" down in Pooraka, they keep a lot of old used cabinets, monitors and things.

Ochre Digital have a website here: http://www.ochredigital.com.au  if that helps.

The T-Molding only took about a week and a half I think?  Wasn't very long at all.  My friend actually ordered the T-Molding and I can't remember exactly how many days it was.  It definitely came quicker than the first Ultimarc order which got held up in customs.  Customs actually rang us up asking what the components inside the box were for.  I guess they thought it could be some sort of bomb parts??

Also I saw in one of your earlier posts that you were considering using a TV for your cabinet.  I just thought I'd let you know that TEAC have a cheap 51cm TV with S-Video Input.  The model is a TEAC CT-M5100 and you can pick it up from Target or Myer for about $250.00 (Aus).  We used one in my friends cabinet which is a Ultimate Arcade 2 design and it worked out great.

If it's regular T-moulding do you realise you can buy it from specialised hardware shops? or at the worst from a cabinet maker? cheap as chips too, maybe $1.50 a metre. Saves sending away for it! I'm in Darwin and even here i was able to buy local. they had maybe 4 or 5 colours. not that really flash looking chrome stuff ive seen somewhere though. that could look good on my next cab (",) , blue would be good too. definitely worth sending away for...

I've posted this here before, but I haven't seen many other people who have gone the same route.
I really liked the results I received from CafePress.
You create your own "webstore" for free, upload your custom artwork, and then choose a product (such as a poster) to apply the artwork to. Then you just buy the product from yourself at cost. You can raise the price if you want to sell it to others and make money off of them.

Everything is in US dollars, but I did the conversion to Australian dollars, and for a large poster which is big enough to print a large control panel overlay, it only costs $17.99 USD, which is about $26 AUD. And for International shipping and handling it is $7 USD which is about $10 AUD. Not too shabby.

My brother in law and I are building a Cocktail cabinet at the moment and I went over his place on the weekend and to my surprise he had black T-Moulding, I asked him where he scored that and he said somewhere in Thebarton, I'll ask him tommorow the name of the place.

t-molding was around before arcade machines were so its not surprising you can find it locally. like i say, even here in darwin i found at least two retailers who had it.

I'm also in Adelaide. That's a few of us now.

I haven't got anything to add, just wanted to say that :) Mind you, I do look forward to the t-molding info.

I've found a few places with it. Clarke Rubber was one I was told to check and they can get it and have it.

My problem is my original cabinet is made of Ply wood and the thickness is only 12mm. My control panel im making is 16mm MDF so I have to send away to get special 12mm (1/2") from T-Molding.com.

So Ill be buying both from the states.

Oh and a little back to the original topic =) If anyone in Australia wants printing done look up signarama. Franchise place in Australia that is printing my CPO and Marquee for $60 inc gst.
CPO is 85cm x 33cm and Marquee is 58cm x 14cm

Also those Aussies wanting to find out who the Aussies might be on this site and which state they live in check this thread out:

yes, i was told that they could order in 12mm but that cabinet makers normally just trim down 20mm. i gave it a shot and i can say that 20mm trims down to 16mm nicely enough.
