So ok I'm a n00b at this, I admit it.

I'm currently building out my cab and I want the best display I can get. Is the D9200 still the champ? It seems from the Wells-Gardner home page that there are a few different models, including a digital version? I'm assuming this is a DVI version that isn't out yet from what I've read in various MAME related forums. Is this something I should be waiting for, or does anyone even know?

My biggest question is that I see people talking about purchasing this display from both Happ and direct from Wells-Gardner. But there seems to be a $100 difference in price. Am I looking at the right thing? I do want to order the correct toy, it's not the sort of thing you easily return.

WG http://www.wellsgardner.com/wellsgardner31/finditem.cfm?itemid=691 seems to be quite a bit less expensive, which seems odd.

The D9200 is indeed still king IMHO, and it is not out of the ordinary for Happ to priced over WG.

would suggest you check out the vision pro 27" vga (svga?) sold by Happs.

ah, sorry for short post. the vision pro is cheaper, on sale right now for $399 I believe. Only give up the lower resolutions at the "cga" end, and get supported 800x600 (better for pinball, pc games, etc.). so I guess if true authentic resolutions are your goal, you would want the 9200, if not, then I just meant that this seems to be a reasonable alternative.

Ahh, yes it seems like it might be.

Does the vision pro work the same as the D9200 so that I don't need a special arcade video card? Is it a standard VGA monitor cable so I can plug and play with my Radeon 9200?

Sorry for all the noob questions, I really appreciate the answers.

Should be plug and play, so no special video card is needed. Think of it as a really big vga monitor. It uses the standard 15 pin d-sub connector.

The specs on the Happs website should confirm its connection, as I recall its ready for vga monitor cord just like 9200, may need to buy separate power cord so check that out. Please post your impressions when you get your monitor!

Agreed! I'm considering purchasing this monitor as I'm not really interested in total authenticity. Plus, since it definitely does 800x600, I'm curious how PC games look on it. My plan is to be able to play arcade, console, and PC games all on one machine. So I'm interested in hearing from people that own this monitor, as well as what their impressions are.

What a coincidence! I am just about ready to buy the VisionPro 27" myself. I am going to mount a monitor in an Astro City (I just don't have the patience to deal with a 15Hz monitor). I already own a D9200 for another cabinet, and it is a very SWEET monitor. The Happ, however, is cheaper and supports the 800x600.

I am a little hesitent, since the D9200 has worked so well...decisions, decisions...

So I heard back from HAPP about shipping this beast.

Ouch.

$120ish via R&L Carriers.

I'm starting to rethink the arcade monitor idea. I'm thinking a HDTV might be a better idea...

back to the research stage with me. (not that I'm complaining, that's part of the fun)

Right now I'm looking at the Zenith C27V36. It has the added advantage of being a nice HDTV, so I can use it like a HTPC as well as a game machine.

Ahhh...the evolution of this project. fun fun fun.

From the specs I've seen, the Neotec (www.neotecgraphic.com) 27" model NT-500DXB7 tri-sync should be a good replacement for the Wells D9200.

I ended up buying a Zenith C27v36 HDTV locally. I got a great price, and the picture quality is fantastic, even just via S-video. As soon as I get it to work properly I'll report back on the DVI picture quality. So far that's been a real pain.
