Golden Tee Golf
« on: April 26, 2004, 07:28:55 pm »

I've just had a look on Ebay for this game (PC version), and it's dirt cheap.

Is there a fairly recent version of it available?

threre was only one PC release of Golden Tee.

And I'm not confident there'll be another, because of the surge in  popularity of the game in bars.  There are people (myself included) that will go out to bars and spend hours playing that game with friends (the newer Golden Tee FORE! versions, though).  Golden tee is a HUGE moneymaker for bars and for Incredible Tech.  Releasing a Fore! version on PC could very well possibly keep people home, playing golden tee, instead of pumping in quarters (read: DOLLARS.. it's not all that cheap to play 18 holes) and buying large amounts of beer.  ;D

no way dude, the whole experience revolves around the trackball....so unless everyone whoe plays golden tee knows how to build an arcade like us, everyone would still go back to the bars.

Yes... but your not going to get it for a long time.

the author of the driver (yes, its done and working) isn't planning on submitting it at all...

too new (especially because the hardware doesn't change for the first 4 or 5 years... so a simple swap of a chd file and you would have new games... no way to limit them)...

too much money being made... IE, expect mame to be sued if they start supporting it..

Everything about it screams leave it alone...  And they are.

Didnt the mame Dev. get something from IE telling them to take GT off the games list?  I thought I read something about it awhile ago.  But Just buy the PC version with the extra courses  Thats what I got on my cab and it plays great.

Doesn't Tiger Woods PGA 2004 support trackball style play?

Not sure how it compares to Golden Tee though...

What I've heard... is the developer (you know him and love him) hasn't given anyone in the mame dev group to even decide if it SHOULD go in..  because he hasn't submitted it... and he wrote it about a year ago.

They might have been asked not to add it... but the devs aren't even to the point of having to talk about it... because only one has it...

well tiger woods 04 is the best golf game ever made in my opinion.  although golden tee is very good...its only at the arcade/bar.  im going to be putting tiger woods 04 on my cab with my trackball, and hopefully it will work like i think it will.  only thing is, im sure the accuracy will be a pain at the beginning until i get used to it.  anybody have experience with tiger woods with a trackball?  hows the accuracy?

TW 04 will play in 640x480.  You just lose some detail.  It also plays extremely well with a trackball.  It's the only way to play it, in my opinion.  Makes it more challenging than the 2- or 3-click method on the mouse.

Tiger Woods 2003 & 2004 work with trackball support.  What you need to do is assign 2 buttons on you panel to be Left & Right mouse click.

If your using a TV or Arcade Monitor, the small font won't be crisp.  But thats ok.

I have Golden Tee PC as well and Golden Tee works well when playing with a bunch of guys.  As it's really easy to play and requires little explanation.

Both work great with the trackball.

You will be much happier with the PC version of GT, rather than the MAME version(s).

chill out bub, i was just saying in a nice way that the mame version of gt sucked hard.  i have the pc version, but havent played it yet.  oh and one thing, the pc version of gt doesnt work at all on win2k.  so make sure you are running win98 or xp.

The answer is the same as when you asked this same question earlier in the thread.  Yes, but you'll obviously lose some fine details.

Another golf game which no one mentioned is Links 2003. I picked a copy of it off of ebay for 18.95. It lets you use the mouse to swing the clubs, so it should work well with a trackball. I ran it at 800x600 and it still looked good. And it lets you have more than one person playing. I wasn't sure if Tiger Woods golf let you do that. But I will let you all know when I finally get the cabinet running :) You can grab a demo of it here...

Golden Tee Supreme Edition Tournament (v5.10) is the newest version out.  IMHO, it's also easier.  My scores dropped about 4 or 5 strokes per course.
