METAL SLUG 3
« on: April 25, 2004, 11:07:57 am »
Just got my MAME system up and running. I'm having trouble playing METAL SLUG 3 for some reason. The game opens, sound works fine, but the graphics are really distorted and the game is unplayable. A friend said it may be that I don't have enough memory, but I added a stick of 256 and it still didn't work. METAL SLUG 1 and 2 work fine. Has anyone had any problems with #3? I have an AMD 1400/128MB pc running the games.

If you're running a command line version of MAME, try disabling sound with the -nosound command. Metal Slug 3 is a very big game and will definetaly need at least 256MB RAM. If the game loads fine w/out sound, that should tell you that you don't have enough RAM. If it still doesn't work, you might consider the fact your file is corrupt.

I had the exact same problem.  Turned out to be the rom.  So I updated the rom and all was well.

Yes mslug3 (and for you romZ kiddies the unofficial mslug4)  used to be in unofficial builds of mame and hacked roms were used.  Using these versions of the roms in regular mame will cause problems.

Something is odd though.  I run mslug3 on my machine (PIII 500 256ram) just fine (using nebula or kawaks).  In mame it is just a little slow, maybe like 40fps.
