How long before Sega Naomi is emulatable?
« on: April 22, 2004, 08:04:24 pm »
Just wondering, how long do you guys think it will take before the Sega Naomi hardware and games will be emulatable through MAME or other emulators?  How fast would computers have to get before this is possible?  Cant wait!
Thanks.

Isn't the Dreamcast based on Naomi hardware, or vice-versa?

Quite frankly the naomi system is very new and very hard to emulate.  There are still dozens of older games/systems that still need to be emulated. It's almost a non-priority for most developers and should be.  You wanna play naomi games then stop being a warez kiddie, go to your local arcade and bring many quarters.  :)

there is one emulation project which makes it look almost complete...

BUT

on the latest computers ( a year ago ) it was only running 10% frame rate or so..

but that was dreamcast, not naomi... and they where trying to emulate both towards the end.

They also said that they wouldn't release it for a while... no matter what...

They came out with a great contest... which was the fake movies produced... it was great!  they showed 4 or 5... almost everyone guessed one but it ended up that all where real... just one was with a new plugin...

but again...don't expect it soon... and don't expect it to actually run...

and dreamcasts are only about 20 bucks.. and games are 2 - 5 bucks on ebay.

Plus Dreamcast's rock, especially for arcade game fans.  Probably the first console ever to be able to do practically perfect arcade ports and even surpass the arcade version in some instances.  Everyone should have one!  :)
