Gens211, ASPI, SegaCD, and MAMEWAH issue
« on: April 22, 2004, 04:41:23 pm »
Hi,

I am running Gens211w/Esc through Mamewah and Windows XP pro.  Recently I installed an ASPI, so that Gens detected my DVD drive to run SegaCD games.

Everything seemed to be fine, but now, once in awhile when I'm in a non CD Genesis game and hit escape, my DVD drive spins for a moment, and then the computer shuts down and re-starts.

It states that it has encountered and error, but won't list what the error is.  This only happens randomly.

Has this happened to anyone else?  If not, does anyone know what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Just out of curiousity, which manufacturer's ASPI drivers are you using?

Adaptec's or one of the handful of others you can find on google if you look hard enough.

Unfortunately the few Sega Genesis emulators out there are hardly being developed and supported any more.. That said, I have seen a lot of people have good luck with a ForceASPI package available on the internet.

Also, some people use a different emulator for Genesis games than they do for SegaCD games. Maybe if you have 2 copies of gens out there with two different configs? One configured to only play Sega CD games and the other only Sega Genesis games?

/s

Thanks.

I was using Adaptec's ASPI layer.  Basically, I just deleted it and now my computer seems to be fine.

I just won't play Sega CD games.  Not really worth the trouble when there are thousands of other games to play.

Consider making disk images of the games you like the most and then store them on your hard drive instead of using the original media. I do that with PSX games and it works well (and you don't have to swap media). SegaCD images I've seen are often pretty small.

Hate to see a technical glitch make you pass by some good games.

Thanks PMC,

Maybe later down the line.  I don't have any of the software to make images at this point.

It seems like kind of a pain.  Maybe I'm wrong.

It's actually easy/quick and any Cd burning program can write an image...you don't need to have a burner installed.
