Help needed for Emusaver 3.0 please
« on: April 21, 2004, 06:00:14 pm »
Hi guys

Windows XP SP1
No name mame xp 81u5
Mamewah v0.963
Emusaver 3.0

I have set up the Emusaver 3.0 files and i am able to test the wrapper from a command prompt and from the screensaver settings and sucessfully load a game. My problem is it doest want to rotate to the next game after the timer is set and will just crash to desktop.

I appreciate and advice you may offer me.

Happy gaming!

Here is some more info

lconfig.ini
LAUNCHSTYLE=0
delimeter=-
{cmdlist}
{/cmdlist}
exe=nonamexp.exe
Short=0
Quotes=0
refreshspeed=1
ExitType=1

emusaver.ini
[EmuSaver]
WrapperName=cmd-launch7.exe
SkipWarnings=0
SkipBadDumps=0
SkipDisclaimer=0
SkipGameInfo=0
EmuPath=c:\mame\
WaitTime=30
ResetTimer=1
GamePaths=c:\mame\roms\
ExitKey=27
PauseKey=80
FileType=*.zip
NoSound=0

emusaverStats.txt
The emusaver started at 12:34:54 AM and ended at 12:35:29 AM

The last command sent was:
cmd-launch7.exe c:\mame\roms\mtwins.zip -wait 30 -reset -keyx 27 -pkey 80

The last game you actually played with was:

Emusaver cycled through a total of  1 games since it's last run.

I see the loading message for the next game in rotation loading but it will crash to desktop right before it initializes.

I tried to get EmuSaver 3.0 working (with both my version, and the official MAME), but I had no luck.

All of the older versions are archived on the site.... just take the url and rename it.

I wasn't ignoring this post btw... it's just that I have a lot of things going on and unfortunately emusaver is at the bottom of my priorities list and emusaver tech support is even further.  All I can say on that is i'm sorry you are having trouble, but it does work.... just keep in mind that it doesn't detect missing or invalid roms.

Also make your wait time longer than 30 secs.... it might be having trouble because 30 secs isn't enough time to load some games.  That's all I can think of, hope that helps.

SaiNRub-

Saw the post a bit ago but wanted to get mine up and running before I could suggest anything.  I am now running Emusaver 3.0 for the most part successfully with noname 81.5 and Win XP.  I do have similar results on occassion though- but I usually just pop back onto DK for what seems to be one game loop [as if it didnt like the game that was loading] and recommences the saver after that.

Try skipping all those features that the config. lets you do since your using noname.  How?  Right click on your emusaver.ini file and then click CONFIGURE (not install) to pull up the menu.  In the menu you have the option to -skip 4 options.  What worked for me was to NOT check those boxes off but instead put the same command line options in the additional command line field at the bottom of the screen.  When you do this, an additional line will be generated in your emusaver.ini file reflecting this.  So your ini will look like this:

skip_baddump=0
skip_warning=0
etc=0
etc=0
x
x
commandlineoptions=-skip_warning -skip_baddump -etc -etc
x

Send ONLY those 4 command lines through emusaver- any other options should already be picked up by your mame.ini .  30 seconds is also too short, for some of the bigger games it can take that long to get it up and running.

Lastly, Id try playing around with the short file names function and quotation functions in your lconfig -> set one to =1 then try the other =1 *shrug* these things can be tempermental sometimes.

BTW, my emusaverstats don't seem to register either so don't worry that nothing shows up (I let it run for an hour and had the same exact stats that you did)

Howard-

Just an FYI/ bug, you probably know this but it seems that the check box to not show the 'loading a game' screen is broken.  As many times as I check that box and save the config, it still shows me that screen everytime.
Your screen name has been added to my frag list.

-Howard

Thanks for the reply i appreciate it. I didnt assume you would have to help me but im glad you did. About your software I know it works because others use it and recommend it. Their has to be something on my system that doesnt allow emusaver to do its thing freely. I will eventually get it working through trial and error and when i track down my situation i will update this thread and inform others that may benefit from it also.

-Teknique

Thank you for your input also.

I am testing emusaver through the screen saver preview mode, I have not yet configured it for my front end as of yet. I dont have anything checked in the emusaver setting screen for skipping, i have them all configured in my mame.ini. The short and quotes suggestion ive tried but no luck for me. And also the 30 seconds was just for testing so i wouldnt have to wait so long to continue my troubleshooting, ideally i will set it for 5 minutes when i get it configured.

I think now its something in particular with my sytem, I believe its something with my monitor refresh rate and these new catalyst 4.4 drivers, plus something not configured right in my mame.ini video core options. Ill figure it out sometime, maybe when i get some other system to test it on ill have more incite. Im probably not even in the ball park about the video problem and it could be something very minor. Ill narrow it down and update this thread when my problem is solved.

Again thank you very much for all the feedback.

Thanks SaiNRuB for this link. I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm having the EXACT same issues as you. Saying that I do not believe its your system. Maybe it has something to do with the OS? I'm running XP as well, I havent tested it on other OS's yet.
I have attempted to adjust every setting in both config files, but the results are always the same. It will launch the 1st game, then it will attempt to switch only to pop back to the windows desktop.
I will post here if I find out a way to get this going.

Thanks

Onji

SaiNRuB and anyone else who is interested, after many failed attempts of getting emusaver working correctly I happened across a news post at mameworld about a mame screensaver that does exactly what we want it to, and it works great!! Here is the direct link:

http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Emichieln/luciddreams/handheld/mamescreensaver.zip

I will launch mame and load up a random rom and play in attract mode which you can interrupt and play if you want, if not it will go to another random rom after your defined time interval. Thought I would share my findings incase anyone missed it.

Thanks

Cool thanks Onji, i like it alot. :)

Only prob I found with it is that Space skips to the next game, but some games use Space as a button.  Also it doesn't remove the game played from the random list, so sometimes you get the same game twice in a row.  That's nothing tho, it does seem to work really well :)
