Linux Framebuffer & 15kHz
« on: April 18, 2004, 10:25:14 am »
Has anyone been able to acheive this?  Granted I haven't ran the advv or advcfg programs, I tried to set up my rc config file with the specs of hclock of 15.75, but when I load advmame, its not at that resolution.  I know because my regular computer monitor displays it fine, and two, the Arcade Monitor has 4 Pictures, lolol.

Anyways, anybody have a working config that I can paste out for me to check out?  Linux Kernel 2.4.22 using rivafb

BTW, when running windoze, it works fine, but I shall refuse to use windows.

The modelines you get from advcfg in DOS are compatible with XFree86. You just need to make modelines first by using advcfg or you could create an approximate modeline using this page.

Note that the timing expressed in a modeline is specific to your video card and monitor combo. As such, you cannot use somebody-else's working modelines.

right now only matrox's g400 supports a 15kHz console.  while the rivafb driver works fine at 15kHz, you can't boot a 15kHz console.  Hopefully, this will change in the near future.  But for right now, the linux fb drivers aren't as stable as svgalib in DOS, so if you want a 15kHz console, you'll need to use a matrox g400.  If you use DOS, you shouldn't have any problems with your card..
