MAME eureka moments?
« on: April 17, 2004, 12:42:16 pm »
For years I've been trying to remember the name of a game I played at a convenience store as a kid.  All I remembered about the game was that it was kind of similar to Galaxian and you docked your ship after a few waves.  Oh yeah, I also remembered the music that played before you started firing.

Then yesterday I was going through some roms that I've never tried and loaded up Moon Cresta.  As soon as the game started it all came back to me.  This was the game that I've been trying to remember for years!  Anybody else ever had that happen to them?

I will have that when Super Rider comes out. I CANNOT WAIT! I was asking about that game without knowing the name of it for about 2 years. Someone pointed out the 1 screen shot that they had at the time but it didn't look familiar. Now with the 4 screen shots they have, I know it is it! Should be fun.

Yes, I had a VERY similar experience! I saw Moon Cresta on MAME's list of games, and I had absolutely no recognition of the name. But then I played it. It brought back memories of the corner store where i spent a good portion of my childhood, playing games like Crazy Climber, etc. The funny thing is, I often would whistle that little fanfare from Moon Cresta (the one after you successfully dock your ship) -- I whistled that tune but hadn't heard it for 20+ years!!  When I played MAME's Moon Cresta a couple weeks ago, I just about fell out of my chair.

That's EXACTLY what happened to me!  I've always remembered that tune but could never remember the game.  When I finally played Moon Cresta the memories came flooding back.  Thank God for MAME.   :)

Playing X-men and TMNT with 4 players, 2 using gamepads and 2 using the keyboard.  Then going back and playing all of the classics that I missed out on.

yes... my cousin and I also....

we were thinking... remember that game that we shoot and then at the end of the stage... we combine ships and become a better ifrepower one ??...
or we can crash on each other ??...

and I looked and looked... rom by rom... and finally found it !!!....

but the game that I always remember the tune, but not the name is New Rally X.... somehow, the tune just stuck in my mind.....

but its a REALLY NICE FEELING when I found them....
