DC Emulation (Solution?)
« on: April 16, 2004, 06:20:02 pm »
Ive been thinking on this one for a while.

So far I have found a program (a modified boot disc) to get the Dreamcast to talk to the computer (also requires modifying cable) and a few test programs to make sure it works.

Now... I've seen a GD-ROM emulator out there as well for the compuer

Is there ANY way to modify the way that the Dreamcast calls on requests by it's GD-ROM drive to ask for that data from the emulated GD-ROM drive on the computer?
I'd like to copy all my games onto the computer so that i have no discs to replace in the DC itself.

*EDIT*
Here's a couple of links to see what I'm taking about...

Looking for the GD-ROM emulator again now. Apparantly i must have deleted the shortcut from Favorites...

Where have you seen this GD-ROM emulator?  The first question/answer in the FAQ (from the link you posted) says this does not turn your computer into a gdrom.  Anyway, the serial link is way to slow, and was only ment for homebrew DC programming work.

About the only way you would be able to accomplish this right now is to buy a Dreamcast development "Katana" system (which is really just a windows PC with Dreamcast card, and GDRom).  You will accasionally find one on ebay for around $800.

Oops... the speed of the serial port totally slipped my mind :-[

The GD-ROM emulator was on  a Japanese site and unfortunaely was in one of the "Favorites" folders i deleted when i cleaned out more than 500 old links in IE ;D

Ill keep looking for it and repost if i find it again...
