Merit Industries and Williams Electronic Games (the pinball maker) were the only USA game manufacturers to use Ducksan monitors. Merit has some information on Ducksans on their tech info page and FAQ page at
www.meritind.comThe "type 20" is indeed a CGA resolution and came in two versions: "type 20 - old" and "type 20 - new". The first model to be used in the USA was type 19 which is also a CGA resolution. Type 35 is also a CGA.
The VGA models are types 50 through type 59. Be aware that all 'types' may carry the same model number! You have to look at the fine print on the model sticker and the cable for the video signal input to be sure you have a CGA or VGA resolution monitor. The type numbers are what Merit Industries used to refer to the many incarnations of the Ducksan. Ducksan is also spelled two different ways: Ducksan and Duksan.
The very first Ducksans to enter the country were imported by Pacific Display Technology (PDT) and had PDT stickers on them identifying them as a PDT product when in fact they are really Ducksan monitors (type 19 and type 20 - old). All Ducksans have a switching power supply onboard and do not need an isolation transformer. If yours has a VGA video cable on it you should be able to go right ahead and plug a VGA video source into it.
