Lookin fer help with a custom cpo

Hello arcade fanatics

 I am tryin to finish up my mspacman galaga cab and the only thing really needed to polish it off is a cpo other than the original mint mspac overlay I had..

I wanna add buttons to the game.... well heres the control panal im using...

original midway panal with a 3" trackball hole in the middle..

some start buttons over on the far left.. between the Tb and s/btns 3 action buttins..

over on the far left I will mount a joystick.. what kind dunno.. doesnt really matter

Lemme grab a real pic with measurements of the actual cp.

But i was gona try for half black and mspac blue on the left .....

the rest will come lata

If it's a Ms Pac/ Galaga cab why not combine the CPO overlays of these machines?

You can use the Galaga CPO I did and maybe find some Ms Pac Man characters too.

cool, thx for the link. A half galaga slash fade effect in the middle with mspac n the other.

I guess I'd love to know how you "guys" put this stuff together.. I have a version of photoshop but man.. I dunno.... it all ends up looking like something made by a 5year old in paint  ya'll know what im talkin about.. are there some good how to's out there? I havent found much.. but then do I know what Im looking for?

Well, there's a good vector tutorial (Adobe Illustrator) on localarcade.com/4images. You can do a search, and it should come right up.

As for photoshop... Photoshop classroom in a book is a good place to start, but that's about 40-50 bucks. I dont' know about on-line tutorials.

I think one of these days I'm going to have to write a resolution / color correction primer...

You probably better try using Illustrator or CorelDRAW or something like that. A retro cab look doesn't need much bitmap effects (like PhotoShop can give you), but the cleaner lines of a vector drawing program will give you a nicer looking overlay.

I also have to agree with you on how hard it is to design. It's much easier to "borrow" some ideas from other overlays than design something yourself.
