Vector of T-Stik Plus directional arrows?
« on: April 13, 2004, 10:59:33 pm »
Hi,

I was just wondering if there's any vector images out there that I could use with my T-Stik Plus.  Basically, if you turn it clockwise it goes into 4-way mode, while counter-(or anti-)clockwise makes it 8-way mode.  Are there any images out there, hopefully in vector format, that demonstrate this?  It could be as simple as 2 concentric circular arrows, 1 going clockwise, the other counter-clockwise.  It doesn't have to be labeled or anything

Thanks!

This is a raster (Photoshop) image of something I was working on for my cab's instruction panel. As a Photoshop file it is 300 DPI at 6"x6" The type and BG could easily be recreated as vectors, although the bezel, joystick and arrows would need to be placed as raster art within Illustrator.

Though maybe you're looking for something to put around the bezel itself.

Oooh!  That's really nice.  Is your Photoshop file (I'm guessing PSD) available anywhere?  I would love to grab that and make a few modifications (sizing & color scheme).

Awesome, any chance you can offer it in a red ball top?

That's exactly what I was hoping to modify it to.  :)

A little OT, but while I'm waiting for a full review could you tell me what you guys think of the T-Stik Plus?

I understand the 8/4 way switching couldn't be simpler, but are there any drawbacks? Can you accidentally switch it during gameplay and screw up your game or does it require a little more effort than that?

Also, how is the 4-way performance? Can you play Donkey Kong flawlessly (does "Jumpman" ever stall if the joystick somehow hits a diagonal?) ???

I'm trying to decide on a T-Stik or an OmniStick Prodigy. I'm hoping the T-Stik performs well, as the Prodigy would mean more mounting work.

I'd say that it would be impossible to accidentally switch from one mode to the other.  You really have to pull up on the stick and twist it into place to make the switch.

As far as I can tell, it works fine.  I haven't tried either of those games, so I can't tell you anything about those specific cases.  I can't force it to hit a diagonal in 4-way mode, and there don't seem to be any dead spots, so it seems good to me.

How much twisting is involved to switch it? IE 1/4 rotation, 1/2 rotation, full rotation? Specifically can you complete the rotation/switch with one motion of your hand or do you have to do several?

From what Ultimarc said, you can't accidentally switch it. It requires a decent amount of upward force to switch.

As for 4 way mode... it is essentially the same as a real 4 way. Only one contact can be pressed at a time.

My t-skik (not plus, but basically the same thing) work great in both 4 & 8 way mode. YOu can definitely feel the difference on the old-skool games.

Well, it's kind of like there's 2 little slots on there, and when you first pull up, you have to spin it until you feel it click into those slots.  That takes anywhere from no rotation to a little less than half a turn.  Once you feel it click, it's a quarter turn to do the actual switch.

Lift up and a third of a turn for 4 way to 8 way, and vice versa. Any chance of a red ball top version?

So is there any chance of getting the Photoshop file for this?  Thanks in advance.

Well, I got bored and made a version of my own.  It's scaled to make the outer circle 2" at 300dpi.

Here's my attempt at one for people that would like place the image centered around the joystick itself. I'm not sure what size it should be, if anyone wants it I'd be more than happy to modify it and make a full size image.
My fiancee has forbidden me to make any more needless arcade purchases, so I haven't gotten a hold of a T-Stik Plus myself yet.   :'(

I have two uninstalled yet and i just love your idea.... Why not even find a way to print it on the plastic "disc" down the stick ...

If you could make the file available in any way it would be nice...

Thanx

Dmsuchy had the same idea, I'm going to resize it to fit the Ultimarc dust-washers. The graphics will have to be simplified and enlarged slightly in order to be readable on the 1.5" and 2" discs that ship with the T-Stiks, but it shouldnt be too difficult to figure something out.
I'll make full size images available when they're done.

I finished the teeny-tiny little itty prints for the dust washers in six fashionable colors and uploaded them to:
http://mame.joymonkey.com/marquees

There's 1.5" ones for the ball-top washers and 2" ones for the washers that come with the bat-top T-StikPlus.

Enjoy!
