Side Art & CP Overlay Sample
« on: April 10, 2004, 12:30:43 am »
Well my Illustrator Trial is just about to run out.   :(  I think I might have gotten a little carried away with it, but here are the CP overlay and Side Art that I came up with. Comments are welcome.

First the CP.

Those little white holes on the top row of the overlay are for a spinner, 2 4-way joysticks, 1 converted flight stick. On the bottom row there are 2 8-way joysticks. The large white hole in the middle of the bottom row is a trackball.

This used to be a TMNT 4 player cabinet, although when I got it had been converted to an early version of Golden Tee Golf. That is why the control panel is so large.

That was a big questions for me. I have them all on a single layer and can easily 'turn them off'. It looks very clean without them...I thought perhaps too clean. I appreciate the comments.

What if, instead of characters, you used vectorized versions of the in game ghosts? It would give that authenticity feel.
Otherwise, I love it!

I was going to suggest the exact same thing.  I think that would look excellent, and really give it that retro/classic feel....

That looks great!  I would also say to use the originall game ghosts.  Are you going to have the bezel continue the blue and pink lines around the monitor?
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I hadn't really thought about a bezel yet. The cabinet has a 25" monitor with one of those plastic bezels that fits against the tube. When I got it it didn't have a bezel infront of the plastic bezel. It is a good idea however. I will have to take some measurements and see how much room I have. I should have more than enough to continue the stripes.

I am going to start tracing some ghosts to see how they look. There were some good hints in another thread on how to do this.

Here is an updated version of the sideart incorporating some of your changes. Thanks for the great suggestions.   :)

The only thing I think you should do is add the actual pacman fruits and what not up to the keys. Maybe show 2 or 3 keys at the bottom. Otherwise it looks VERY cool. I like the fade from 1 to the other.

You wouldn't happen to have a screen shot that shows the actual fruit up to the key would you? I have looked around and I can't find one and I sure can't get that far in PacMan!

I found this on google, but I don't think it's the original.  I remember the keys going horizontal, not vertical, but it's been a long time.  For some reason, I rembmer the keys being gold also.  Hope this helps regardless.

Just use the cheat and you can start on any level up to the 2nd key. I think you should use all symbols though the keys. If you are on the second key, it only shows back like 8 things. I think you should use from cherries to keys and paste them all together. If you can understand what the hell I just said.  I attached a file below to show what I mean. Just cut off however many keys you want to make it fit correctly.

Awesome work :)

If I may add my 2 pence, the only thing I'm not keen on is the little characters on the CPO, that is probably just me tho.  Aside from that I really like the CPO :)
