Play xbox on Regular PC monitor
« on: April 04, 2004, 11:25:32 pm »
Hi
My new place is small and I am considering using my PC as a PC and tv. I would like to connect XBOX to it and be able to play etc, and want to watch tv but have questions.
Is there a tv tuner card that will let me directly connect xbox to a regular PC monitor? I see devices that says VGA monitor whats the difference?? I see these box things that let you do this? please explain

If there is a tv card which one? one that will connect xbox via the rcas or svideo....? do I have to set my monitor to a specif mode?

With the tv tuner card can i have a remote? does one come with a remote or something instead of using the mouse to change channels? Any information into this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder card. It comes with a TV tuner on-board and a remote. If your monitor is reasonably large, it'll make a decent TV and DVR. It has an RG-59 cable-TV type input.

It has a breakout box that accepts composite and s-video input. I suppose you could connect your Xbox to that. I'd be interested to hear how well it works. Xbox has no VGA-output so you'll have to connect it via S-video or similar.

I only use mine a generic video card for regular PC stuff and PC games. I watch some TV in a window while I work sometimes. That's as far as I've pushed it.

Good luck!

hi guys,
you can get the xbox to play dvd's and even show the dashboard on with an xbox2vga. you need a modchip and it involves hex editing the dashboard and dvd player. check www.xbox-scene.com . they are the source for xbox info. i saw the information on how to do this in the forums.

i have found an alternative to the xbox2vga. it's called the vd-z3 and can be found at www.vdigi.com . the cool part is that you can plug anything that outputs a progressive signal into it. so you can use it with ps2, xbox whatever. right now it even comes with a cable for the xbox so it's all ready to go.

Demon Seed...

Not to Threadjack, but I don't know what DC - VGA piece that you used but of the 75 or so games I have tried on my DC hooked up to a VGA, only about 4 or 5 didn't work.  Like SNAAAKE said about the XBOX, the DC run off of VGA looks great!
