Non-MAME asset renamer?
« on: April 04, 2004, 02:52:07 pm »
Is there some utility that helps get your non-mame roms and their associated art files all renamed to be the same?
I'm setting up Z26 (2600 emu) and Gens (Genesis emu) and there is going to be a lot of file renaming. Surely not everybody does this by hand, do they?

For example, for the 2600,
rom name: "Timeplt.bin"
cartridge art: "Time Pilot (1983) (Coleco).jpg"
screen shot: "Time Pilot (1983) (Coleco).png"

All of the 2600 roms are in 8.3 format. I need to rename all of the rom, cartridge, and screen shot files to match for the frontend to find all of the assets.
Renaming the cartridge and screen shot art to be just "Time Pilot.jpg" and "Time Pilot.png" is easy enough to automate.
However, converting the 8.3 cryptic rom names to match the art names seemingly needs to be done by hand.
Does somebody have a program that does this already? I imagine that others have come across this before.

There will be similar (but not as extreme) filename fixing-up needed for my genesis roms, cartridge, and screen shot files.

All of the art files I got from http://www.screenshotarchive.com/

Thanks

Ok, I think I now have a decent handle on how to do what I need to do.
I found a program called Good2600 on http://www.zophar.net/utilities/goodutil.html
And that did the trick.

Looks like GoodGen on the same page will fix my Genesis woes also.
