Hiding windows 2000 (2)
« on: April 04, 2004, 09:01:27 am »
I've been able to change the windows2000 boot screen, and even hide it thanx to the information that someone kindly posted here a days ago. Now the problem I have is that right after that logo screen, a screen with blue background appears and some info boxes saying loading config or something about the user (I don't remember well). I'd like to hide those screens too. I know it's possible because I've seen an avi that I downloaded where you can see how win2000 loads and mamewah appears right after the win2000 logo, with no sign at all of windows (apart from a second with the cursor in the middle of the screen). Could you please help me out with this? BTW, I've already set windows so that users don't have to identify when windows starts.

I'm not sure but I think that the way people set around that loading profile stuff is to have windows use MameWah as the shell instead of the normal GUI.  I'm not sure how this is done however.  I'll look around and see what I can find.

I know there was a thread from awhile back about hiding XP which is pretty much the same as 2K aside from the method to change the boot screen.  You should be able to do a search.  Let me know if you can't find it.

Need more specifics above all, but if you are talking about preventing Explorer from loading, here is the registry key that says what the shell is, so to speak all you would do is change Shell = "mamewah.exe"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

In that subfolder is a statement :
Shell   - REG_SZ   -  Explorer.exe

Make sure you know how to come back from this, and how to change it back to explorer via safe mode or recovery console, but you can try changing explorer.exe to your mame frontendand seeif that does the trick.
