Home Computer video card GAMMA...
« on: March 24, 2004, 01:23:10 pm »
I am posting this here since it is NOT a MAME computer system or a video problem w/ MAME. If I have failed conservative, mods please move this to the monitor/video forum.

This problem afflects my home system. System is an eMachines (Don't laugh).

AMD XP 2600 processor
1024 ram

I have an Nvidia ti 4600 video card. Ever since installing it, the screen is DARK! SUPER DARK! I had to add a "gamma adjusting" program.

I can't find ANYWHERE in the Nvidia software that allows me to adjust the gamma. I have my monitor CRANKED UP in the brightness and contrast category. When I run the video card setup program, and it has you click on the faint objects, it tells me that my brightness settings on my MONITOR are too dark!

If I start a movie (Using  quicktime , for example) It is very dark, even with the gamma ajusting program running. THEN, I press pause in QT, and start a Windows movie (Using windows Media player). It is nice and bright, AS LONG AS THE QT MOVIE IS PAUSED IN THE BACKGROUND!

Can anyone guide me on how to fix this? This is the second Geforce-type card I have owned, and they both have pissed me off!

Anyone want to buy the card off of me?

I have a geforce 3 but perhaps the adjustment will be similar on a newer card.

1) Go to display properties
2) Go to the settings tab
3) Click the advanced button
4) Click on your Videocard's Tab (Mine is called GeForce3)
5) Click on color correction
6) Adjust Gamma!!

OK, I found it. I can adjust the gamma/contrast/brightness of the desktop...

...BUT, changing those settings does NOT do anything to any application I run. It only enables me to tweak how my desktop background looks. If I run a QT movie, it is DARK. So dark ,I can't see what it is. If I PAUSE the qt movie, and start a windows media file movie, the windows movie looks fine.

$20 paypal to the person who can get my gamma adjust to work for my desktop, as well as any program that is running.

I will be home from 6 PM - 11 PM EST. During that time, I will take any requested screen shots, and change any settings (As long as they will help diagnose/fix my video card dilemma!) requested in this thread.

Like I said, winner gets $20 paypal.
