Compile MAME32.60 without loading screen
« on: July 15, 2002, 09:38:12 pm »
Just compiled mame32.60 and removed the 'OK' screens. Does anyone know what to change in the souce code to remove the loading status bars that open before launching each game? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
James

James, the moderators around here haven't caught you yet but that is a forbidden topic.  Removing the "ok" screens is in voliation of the mame liscenseing argeement.  Those are there to help remove liability from the mame dev team when some genius decides to put a mame cab in an arcade or something stupid like that.

If you search on google however you will find the answer your looking for.  Or perhaps you can ask someone privately.

Howard, its only illegal if he distrubutes it. It's perfectly OK for you to compile a personal copy, just don't give it to anyone else. If he included a link to his recompiled version, the post would be removed.

Why do you think it would be forbidden? Has the Mame team's attitude about about recompiling changed recently?

Did Saint and PJ say something that I missed?

pj deleted a similar topic just the other day.

And yes I'm aware that a personal build is fine, but I was afraid of just what you said, someone linking to their own build.

Hmm... just checked the deleted area, and there is one thread about recompiling mame without OK screens.  I know there have been several threads about recompiling which makes me wonder if it wasn't a double post and got deleted for that reason...

My understanding was that it was ok as long as you didnt distribute the compiled version. I'll report myself to the moderators if thats not the case.  :-\

It is ok...

and there are sites that have the code to copy/paste into your source to do that (and many other hacks)..

but it's up to saint and pj if they want it here.  Just because it's ok to do it personally, doesn't mean that the mods need to like it....

but that aside...

there used to be a great site that had a ton patches (like that one).  anyone have the url?

I posted a response with a link to the MAME compiling forum the other in response to someone's question and it was deleted.  I was surprised as I had read the MAME licensing agreement & saw no problems with recompiling MAME however you wished as long as it was not distributed.  I didn't have the energy to structure a response but certainly felt unjustly censored.  Anyway,  I'm glad to see others support my thoughts.

Glad we straightened that out. Now that the taboo has been lifted, anybody know how to do this?

Literally search on google for:

mame+removing+"ok"+screens

It'll pop up.
