Question for Minwah (Mamewah and DOS)
« on: March 22, 2004, 02:21:51 pm »
Minwah,
Will Mamewah work in native DOS? I'm considering using DOS 7 for my new cab for stability/speed reasons (ancient PC for classics).

I've got my spinner and ipac using PS2 inputs to avoid USB hassels. Just wondering if all the skinning work i've been doing in PS for Mamewah will be for nothing.

I'm not to keen on using a P2 450 with XP.. suppose I could if I had to.

I'm afraid not :(

I have an old P2 333 which I have run MAMEWAH on - it works quite well...

You might still want to give DOS a try tho, it will be much quicker booting up for starters...

it's an refurb dell P2 450 with on board vid and sound so i may end up using XP just due to not having to find drivers anyway.

Mamewah is XP only? Just wondering, sorry to pester.

No, I've got 98 SE running with it.  You could give that a shot since you have an older machine.

Yes, sorry '98 is fine, I thought I'd said that  :-[  I was running '98 on my old P2...

Not quite as smooth as XP on a fast PC, but not bad on an old PC all the same.  Good thing is that if you use a simple layout (few/no transparent objects etc.) it requires very little system resources...

Consumer be warned.... all major cabinet fe's at this point are geared towards running xp on a decent pc.  If you plan on making a cab with lesser specs you might want to save your money and think again.

(btw... I've been saying this for over a year now, but I just thought I would say it again for the benefit of this post.)

Fair warning Howard but I'll change FE's before I buy a new machine to run the classics. Much I love mamewah it doesnt make sense to drop any real change on a PC so I can play Robotron. There's always arcade OS I suppose.

Gamelauncher! After all this time still one of the most elegant fe's out there...

Seriously man... put windows 98 on your machine and run mamewah.  You will never have a problem especially if you're just out to run the classics with Mame.
