20th Anniversay Optimus Prime, Have You Seen It?
« on: March 22, 2004, 12:37:06 pm »
I was at Wal-Mart the other day and ran across the most amazing transformer I'd ever seen.  Prior to this it had been Unicron.  Optimus Prime.  But not like I had ever seen.  Someone went above and beyond making this figure.  It looks exactly like he did in the cartoon.  And he actually transforms!  He's fully articulate, comes with a ton of extras, and is fashioned out of die-cast steel!

Now if I had a spare $70 to pick him up, I likely would.  But bills must be paid...

HOLY COW!!!!!!!

 :o :o :o :o

I need that..I want that!!!!  That looks way cooler than the big blocky one we had to play with...I always thought he was the coolest, but the actual toy was not very good looking...not like Jazz or Skyfire.

nowhere as lame as the 2 minivans though

Minivans...you must mean Ratchet and Ironhide.

Yeah...that picture doesn't do it much justice.  Do a search on eBay and you'll see better ones.

that is way cool...

I like the inclusion of the "spot where he puts the matrix"... my original toy back in the day didn't do that.  and the megatron pistol is a nice touch...

Does anyone watch the new cartoons?  My wife thinks i'm daft for tivo'ing Transformers Energon (saturdays 7:30 on cartoon network I believe)....

Feel's sudden urge to play, "You've got the touch" mp3 =)

I saw the new cartoon the other day.  I din't like it so much.  It's all "power rangerized".   Everytime someone is going to fight they suddenly fly through some colorful psychedelic vortex while an announcer shouts their name.  I hate that.  Why does it have to look like pokemon?

In fact, I'm not much of a fan of anime altogether.  Even the really good animation out of japan that doesn't have all the melodramatic introduction of the characters before they fight, like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, still have that irritating horrendous voice acting where everyone inexplicably feels the need to yell and scream everything they say as fast as they can, while their mouth has only two frames of animation: closed and huge.  WTF?  I'm only 25.  I feel like I should be young enough to "get" it, but I don't.  I hated Akira.

LOL, I'm with you, shmokes!

And what about when they're going to attack, and they have to scream whatever attack they're going to do.  What's up with that?  Just fight already!

My little bro gave me for xmas the 1st season of the original transformers cartoon! We used to race home from school to watch it, but we alwas missed the 1st few minutes of each episode....

BIGTIME nostalgia.

Also, I was at We-Be-Toys-and-Shtuff about a week ago. They have re-released the ORIGINAL designs for bluestreak, starscream, inferno,....

$35 each. Yikes!

Oh man, Peale thanks a bunch for getting me back into my transformers geek-dom

I wanted to do my kid's room in a tranformers theme with a big Optimus mural on on wall. I also wanted to put all my Gen 1 transformers on a shelf around the room.  I got the veto though.  It's bears.  There will be a transformer in there somewhere though.   Maybe eating a bear in an energon cube.

Was there anything better than getting a transformer for the first time and just wrenching that thing around until you figured it out.  I'd be scared right now at $75 bones to touch the thing.

I went and bought the Optimus Prime (firetruck) and Ultra Magnus (car carrier) figures when they went on clearance a year or two back.  These two figures merge into one giant robot, which looks totally awesome.

Man, somehow I have to sell something so I can afford to pick one up.  I'd kill for a Unicron figure, too.  But that's another $48.

Akira is over rated.  It has no plot, no interesting chracters, nothing.  Actively avoid watching it.

I do enjoy Anime though.  If you want to give it another try, start with Cowboy Bebop and then watch Trigun.  Also, avoid the dubbed versions, (Cowboy Bebops is the only exception to this).  Currently, I am watching the fan subs of Gungrave and it is pretty awesome too.
