Rcmd. TV for Centipede Cab?
« on: March 21, 2004, 02:00:52 am »
Hello,

I'm looking for a television to fit into a centipede cabinet.  I want it to be bigger than a 20", but all the 25" TV's I've come across are just a little too wide.  The cab can fit a TV that's 23.5" wide max.  Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for any help.

If you decase a TV you can fit a 25" TV into a centipede cabinet.

Wow, thanks for the pics!!

Did you build that frame from scratch, or is that a modified version of the original centipede monitor frame?

Also, is decasing a TV a simple and safe procedure that you would recommend for a novice to attempt?  I have no television repair experience at all.

Thanks again!

While searching the web I came across this page

http://www.control-click.com/mame/index2.html

And it seems there exists a 24" TV that will fit without decasing it.  I just can't tell what type of TV it is otherwise I would've bought it already.

Check http://www.genao.com/datatech/monitor.html for another option.

Control-click is Justin's website, I believe he used an Apex TV, it was like the cheapest one he could find at the time.  Unfortunately the Apex models this year have the speakers on the sides so they won't fit anymore.

The frame I used was the original mount for the 19" vertical monitor and I modified it to fit the 25" tube.  I'm actually using an 8liner's chassis and an ArcadeVGA card so it is basically a real arcade monitor now.  The procedure for decasing the TV was pretty simple, you just have to make sure you discharge the TV tube before touching any of the dangerous parts.  As always if you don't feel comfortable working around high voltage it is probally best you don't try this.  More details on how I mounted that tube can be found at:
