Alaskan Mame!
« on: March 16, 2004, 04:06:34 am »
Well hello everyone,

I'd like to take this opportunity to share with everyone my completed (well, completed for now...) mame cab! yay!!! Standard Lusid design, nothing fancy. And just to give credit where it's due, the marquee is Richard Kirk's, with a few extra characters and logos. Thanks, Rich! Why is it Alaskan Mame? Well, it's a mame cab, and it's in Alaska... Any other BYOACers up here?

Well, I think that I had better give an enormous thankyou to everyone on this board. The information on this board is incredible! What a wealth of knowledge. I must have gone through all of the examples twice, and read the docs on this site 5 times. Soon enough I'll throw up my own site, you know, to do my part and add to the community. But really, thank you guys so much.

Man, what a fun project this was. What the hell am I going to do now that it's done? Play arcade games, I guess!  :D
THIS IS SOOOO COOL! I LOVE MY OWN ARCADE CONTROLS!

Hey congrats.  Looks very clean.  I like the Bezel - is it glass or plexi?

Needs some paint and some finishing touches but it's great! I like the marquee "cover" too and specially the big screen!? What screen it is?

Give us some details please... :)

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot! The screen is just a 27" RCA tv. Here's one thing about that, though. I was initially using a pretty lame s-video cable, and I got pretty bad dot crawl, blurry picture, etc. Eventually I decided to try a better cable. I plugged in a monster cable, but it had the same problems. Then I tried and Audio Research s-video cable, and it cleared it all up! It looks fantastic now.

For the bezel I just cut some black poster board and taped it to the TV. There is a piece of very dark smoked plexi glass in front, too. At first I thought it would be too dark, but I was quite suprised to see the games shine through while the rest of the stuff hidden.

I do plan on adding a coin door in the future, when I get some more extra $$$... But for now buttons are fine.

What would you recommend?

I'm also trying to create my own Alaska Mame marquee. I'll have a snowy landscape with some igloos, the northern lights in the sky, maybe spelling out "Alaskacade", or "Alaskan Mame". I want to put in all of the snowy or icy video game characters I can think of, too. The only problem is, I can only think of a couple right off hand... And they're pretty much just Nintendo guys. Suggestions?

Thanks!
Eric

icy characters.... hmm

Sub-Zero from MK
Bad Mr. Frosty from Clayfighters
Glacius from Killer Instinct
Iceman from X-Men COTA (I think)

thats all I can think of for now.   :P
