Trying to vectorize some things, take a look...
« on: March 14, 2004, 03:49:56 pm »
I am working around with several different Raster->Vector programs, and came up with this (attached).

I know that programs like these do not, and can not, create perfect vectors, but when an image has an extreme ammount of detail, by-hand vectorization gets to be quite a lengthy process.

Just wanting to get some opinions to see if anyone would like me to make some more. Hey, free is free right? LoL.

BTW, I just made a screenshot of Illustrator for that ryu.gif, so it is exactly what the vector looks like. I would post the vector, but it is 1.2mb with compression on. Eeek.

Yes I did. ;)

I was able to save it as a eps file, and zip it to make it a whopping 220kb, so I'll upload it.

humm something went wrong
see the above messsages guven by unzip, when trying to deflate the file
Code: [Select]
bulgroz:/bank/vector > unzip ryu-comic_big.zip
Archive:  ryu-comic_big.zip
error [ryu-comic_big.zip]:  missing 5 bytes in zipfile
  (attempting to process anyway)
error [ryu-comic_big.zip]:  attempt to seek before beginning of zipfile
(please check that you have transferred or created the zipfile in the
appropriate BINARY mode and that you have compiled UnZip properly)
  (attempting to re-compensate)
inflating: ryu-comic_big.eps        bad CRC 7b6d0f39  (should be be0d0ddf)

furthermeore when trying to open the file it crashes gimp

Code: [Select]
bulgroz:/bank/vector > gimp ryu-comic_big.eps
GNU Ghostscript 7.07: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
I'm on the planning stage

The trouble with raster-> vector converters usually is that they look fine when you see the whole picture, but when you zoom in it looks horrible. So then the end result is only usable for on screen viewing and not for printing in a large format. Isn't that a problem with this program?
