Help with Misfit Mame
« on: March 13, 2004, 01:57:52 am »
Ok, so I am pretty sure I'm retarded, but could use a little assistance anyways.  Trying to get Misfit up and running and I keep getting errors stating that required rom files are missing....

It appears the latest version in based on .62, so I fired up ClrMame Pro, and used the rebuilder on the mame.exe that comes with Misfit, it takes my newer regular roms and rebuilds a bunch of new ones in my Misfit roms folder.

I am assuming I have not done everything I needed to do as it still isn't working for me.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

One more question, would I be better off trying to do this with NoName instead?  If so, would the process for building the roms be the same?

I realize these may be dumb questions, I haven't found many answers to this point though, and I am sure someone else has done this, if you could list the steps out for me, and type slowly, that would be great.  :)

Not sure what you're talking about, but it sounds like you may be better off with No Name MAME. It includes almost all the MiSFiT games and is based on the current version of MAME.

So then would I need to do a rebuild of the roms based on your version?  The rebuild of the roms I did with Misfit made a bunch of new roms which I hadn't seen before, obviously being the ones for that executable, should I assume I would need to do the same for your build, or have I gone way overboard on my amount of stupid non-sensical questions for the day?

Thanks again

You don't need to rebuild my ROMs for my version, as long as they will work with the official MAME, they will work with No Name MAME. I think thats what you were asking anyways, please correct me if I misunderstood you.

No, maybe it's something I am not understanding....

From Misfit's site, I downloaded the executable, as well as the source code patches, and the samples and snaps.  From there, did a rebuild of my roms in ClrMame based on the Misfit executable, which created about 400 new roms (basically all the hacked games based on Pac/Ms. Pac, etc), I am still not able to play these games as they are telling me I am missing roms, in the case of the hacks based on Pac-Man:

D:\Mame\misfitmame>mame superabc
u14.rom      NOT FOUND
u1.rom       NOT FOUND
7f.rom       NOT FOUND
4a.rom       NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.

I have tried putting the Pac/Ms Pac/etc roms inthe the folder thinking it was somehow set up as a clone and needed the parent roms to no effect.  I am running out of ideas here.....

Simply rebuilding your romset will only generate the ROMs that have stayed the same for each hack. You will still need to find the roms or patches in order to play them.

Well that would make some sense, not as easy as I thought it was going to be.  I got the patches, but not enough...  I guess I will look to see where I can find some burners that can fill that request.

Thanks for the help!
