Hot Rod doesn't work right
« on: March 12, 2004, 12:50:19 am »
I just switched from MAME32 to windows command MAME and Mamewah front end. I have a HotrodSE but I can't get it to work right. What do I need to do to get MAME to know that it is there?  ???

You need to ensure mame.ini contains the command to look at the correct ctrlr folder

### Input device options ###
ctrlr                     HotRod

Yep, actually should be :

ctrlr                     HotRodSE

tho - the HotRodSE has more buttons mapped than the standard HotRod.

Maybe I am a retard but I cannot find the mame.ini file in my mame folder. Can someone point the blind man in the right direction?

In Windows, check under 'Folder Options' to make sure you can view hidden files.

Ex: In XP, it's "Tools/Folder Options/View" and make sure "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checked.

You may also want to click the "Apply To All Folders" button. That way you'll always see the hidden files.
And, for safety's sake, you don't want to always see these files (in case a child or spouse may accidentally delete them), once you're done editing the ini file, go back and click the "Do Not Show Hidden Files And Folders".

Hope this does it!

If it's not there then that's probably because the file hasn't been generated.  Open up a command line window and get into you mame directory.
cd mame            -or whichever directory you have it
mame.exe -cc    - this will create the mame.ini file

Set the controller to HotRodSE in your MAME.INI file.   If that does not work, try a manual re-map of your buttons by pressing tab, and choosing "Input: General".
