I can't setup my vertical arcade monitor.. Help!
« on: July 16, 2026, 10:51:43 am »
Hi friends. I can't setup my Vertical monitor to play vertical games in full screen. I choose rotating to left in vmmaker. Where is the error? The horizontal games run perfect with the superresolutions, exactly (look Bubble Bobble screens) But the vertical games are wrong screen resolutions. Any help? Thanks!

Do you mean General Settings / Advanced options / Rotate option?

How do you have your desktop setup?

Can you provide a pic of your VMMaker setup screen with the screen rotation options.

When trying to get this right, it is best to start with a "blank slate", with all options left at default in mame.ini.

So, delete your mame.ini (you can make backup if you really want) and type "mame.exe -cc" from the CMD console to re-create a default mame.ini. I think mame automatically creates one on startup too, but I always do it from the main console.

Then:
- Run VMMmaker.exe and do your monitor rotation setup.
- Ensure you have the right mame.exe file selected (on the last tab), then
- Click "OK" and you'll see a message (in vmmaker's little console window) about exporting settings to mame.

This updates your mame.ini file.

Hi Zebidee, thanks for your reply.
Here are the screenshots. Started with a clean mame.ini and then vmmaker. With any of options Rotate_l or Rotate_r the screen always is facing down vertically. I don't know why.

Click on the pull-down list and choose the rotation so that the left icon matches your desktop rotation, while the right icon shows how to rotate the games (e.g. "rotating to the left"). Circled in the attached pic. You can also click the box marked "desktop rotates too" to rotate the Groovymame menu screen.

Then click "OK".

If GM still does not rotate games, choose "General Settings/Advanced Options" then "Auto rotate left: On". If it is already selected then toggle it (forces mame.ini to save again).
