rename snapshots in mamewah
« on: March 11, 2004, 10:27:56 am »
My understanding is that mamewah has the ability to automagically rename snapshots taken while playing the game, but I'm not sure how to set that up.

I have some gameboy games that don't have snapshots or boxscans, so I'd like to at least get snapshots: I can hit a key to take a snapshot while playing the game, but the snapshot in named using 8.1 convention instead of long filename, so if the game is called (I'm making this up) "007 - Die another day", the snapshot created ends up being 007DIE~1.png.
Can mameah still rename the snapshot properly?
Maybe I need to enable "use long filneames" when calling the emulator?
How do I set up the "artwork#1 path to rename" (or something like that)?

Sorry, I didn't play with it much and I may be able to figure it out on my own but I though someone out there might walk me through the proper way to this...

It's in the Misc Settings menu. called "Artwork#1 filename to replace with Rom name", then tell MameWah the path of the new images using ? as the wildcard for the romname.

Your path will look something like: C:\MAME\screens\?.png

BUT- you have to change your screenshot directory to be the Artwork #1 directory.  Thats what was messing me up when I had problems with it.

That's cool but how do I match the filenames to the ROM names? My ROMs are in goodtools format.
Edit: they have a file that contains the complete list bewteen rom number and title text, although it's not in real goodtool format that I can see, but maybe I can write a script to do some "fuzzy" matching of name vs goodtool name to rename the screenshots?

Any source for box scans except for Stuzza's site? www.screenshotarchives.com I'm using Cave's skin until I design my own (or maybe I'll keep his) so I'd like to have both boxscan and screenshot.
I have a similar problem with naming: Stuzza has a bunch of boxscans that are not in goodtools formats, did someone convert them to goodtools? How would I go about doing it? (I could then send them back to Stuzza to host).

That link should be www.screenshotarchive.com .

All the boxscans at my site are in goodtools names.  They were renamed by hand by myself and all the others who contributed.  The GBA boxscans were named to match the goodtools set at the time (this was a few months ago).  Obviously because GBA games are still being made and sold the set will be missing more and more new titles as time goes by.  You should be able to find scans of the newer games on the net pretty easily and then rename them to match your set.  I'd be happy to host any of the extra ones you do.  ;)

sorry about botching the site link.

After I downloaded the boxscans from your site and extracted the archives, I had a directory called "not in goodtools" in which the files are ... well not in goodtools format. what are those?

Those must be newer titles that were not listed in the version of Goodtools used to get the names from.  The GoodTools sets are updated every so often, and as a result do not always reflect all the available games.  So there may be a newer version of Goodtools for that set which will include those games, or the games are much newer than the last official goodtools release and so are not present yet.

I think from now on I'll start including the number of the GoodTools set which was used to get the names.  e.g. GoodJAG [0.999.4] etc..  This way when an update is released we know to add more scans.

Just thought I'd confirm this is totally right  :)

goodGBA 2.001 was released recently so that probably explains it.
