Rowe Ami Cadette amp issue

Hi All, I am new to this forum.
I have a Cadette which was playing fine then all of a sudden started making loud noise/crackling sounds. I have disconnected the input to the amp but as soon as you select a record and it starts to play, the amp unmutes and the noise starts. I disconnected the pre amp and tried again and the same thing happens. I am looking for some advice to help fault find. Is it a known issue?
