Global VR Arcade Classics, installing new pc
« on: November 03, 2025, 12:09:59 pm »
Hey guys. Ok so ive got a Global VR arcade classics cabinet.
manual here - https://service.globalvr.com/downloads/gac/040-0140-01_global_arcade_classics_system_manual-intel-mboard-web.pdf

The PC has finally died on me, and it's a pain to get another system with the same CPU as the OS and its components are locked to this old PC
I bought software discs for it years ago but the HDD is dead, the powersupply dead, ram faults.. it needs an all new PC basically and knowing my luck il get one but then the usblinx II board will die or something..

So i want to just have it as a mame cabinet now and il customise the theme to suit the machine.

Anyways im just looking at some options really on whats best to use the existing button hardware etc and getting a new pc in there.

It uses some good controls (happ) and has a nice happ trackball but the connections go into this USBLINX II board so nothing is plug and play with the board removed, more than likely id have to either crimp new connections on for them to wire up to the new method.

So yeah just looking for some advice really, what JPAC would I need, or, zero delays? what would you do in this situation?

Thank you

Could you not just swap in a Windows/Linux PC running MAME and use the USBLinx board to interface the cabinet controls to this PC?

I was thinking of this. there is a tool on github that lets you so this since they implemented a security feature apparently that looks for the numlock button to be pressed every 30 seconds https://github.com/TylerLyczak/USBLinx-Conversion. its a windows script that will do this for you.

My one though is a usblinx II so am not sure if there is something else needed.

Anyways this usblinx board is also a sound board and as this is old hardware now, id rather get things running for a traditional pc setup than have these custom parts that cant easily be replaced.

Im thinking its going to be a case of snipping a lot of wires and following wiring diagrams for the trackball and so on to an ipac 2 or something

Makes sense, I’ve had no experience of the USBLinx board, just know quite a lot of the Global VR stuff is usually plug and play.
I’ve not setup up a MAME cab in years to be honest, but Ultimarc used to be the place to go for interface gizmos.
