Sorry if this is the wrong place, but anyone know the correct boot config for a pi 5 with retropie plugged into a jpac?

Assuming you had a bare Pi5 (because i'm not sure about retropie in particular or RGBhats)... I was messing around for the first time recently and found they'd just updated the... method of selecting video modes on boot, i guess you call it. The docs were/are incomplete, especially around TV modes.

https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=374305#p2250009

I managed to get 480i on boot by using an EDID file. You may even need to replicate this method to get 480p too, if that is your aim. The system may not change to the mode you specify until the desktop, but i think the boot process itself is at 480p.

PM me if you want the EDID files from that thread, i think the links are dead. You can also burn the EDID file to a dongle like one of these

Doesn't matter which one you buy, you can just overwrite it using ToastyX's EDID writer - https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-EDID-DisplayID-Writer

Sure. I may as well upload a few at once. Note that the 240P one is actually at 640x240p as i could not get 320x to work. With emulation you should be able to integer scale the image.

Thank you I'll try it, I have a feeling it's my HDMI to VGA adapter though, gonna test an active one.

i've found the Ugreen ones to be the best for the price. They work well for 15kHz, but also right up to 1080p. And the audio is good also.

Yep this+edid worked, emulation station text is really blurry though.

Great to hear it worked. At 240p i'm not surprised text in a utility is a little imperfect. As long as you have 240p so your games work properly. With a reminder that many arcade games weren't 240p, especially CPS1/2 at 384x224p.
